Russian Security Industry Celebrates 15th Anniversary of MIPS

Key players in the security industry in Russia and the CIS gathered in one of Moscow’s largest exhibition venues, Expocentre, to mark the 15th anniversary of the Moscow International Protection and Security Exhibition, MIPS. The event took place on 13-16 April 2009, featuring 315 companies who represented 20 countries, and welcoming 12,800 registered trade visitors, – an increase of 7.5% from 2008.This year, CARDEX the international smart card & IT security exhibition was held alongside MIPS, bringing a new dimension to the exhibition’s product profile. MIPS showcased products and services for major sectors such as CCTV, alarms, access control systems, fire safety, emergency and rescue, and safety at work; whilst CARDEX presented the latest achievements in the fields of plastic production, personalization equipment, software for electronic bank operations and network management, electronic signatures and biometric systems for image recognition. The Best Innovative Product contest generated huge interest at this year’s MIPS. For the first time ever, the winners equipment was listed in the governmental list of recommended products. This means that winning companies have the right to sell direct to equipment installers and end-users, providing a fast route into the Russian market, as they avoid going through lengthy certification procedures.

In addition, the 6th international conference New Demands for Security and Safety of Complex Objects and Transactions was held during MIPS, welcoming approximately 180 delegates, many of whom were government representatives. One of the most popular sessions focused on Russia’s Fire Safety Regulations, which generated central discussions about fire safety regulations in unique, high-rise buildings, complex objects and all aspects of a safe city.

Despite initial concerns that the financial downturn would affect the industry, the exhibitors seemed to have full confidence in the Russian market, as Senior Event Manager, Ilya Sobolev, explains: 78% of exhibitors have already rebooked for 2010 event it’s business as usual for the Russian security industry, despite the hype about the global crisis. This year, there has been a noticeable shift in terms of market players, nevertheless, the event mirrors the industry developments and, once again, has reinforced its status as the largest security trade exhibition for the Russian and the CIS markets.

Next year’s MIPS will take place on 19-22 April 2010, at Expocentre, Moscow, Russia.
