1st International Conference on Object Databases (ICOODB 2008)- Berlin

ICOODB 2008 is an International Conference on Object Databases and will take place 2008 in Berlin, Germany, on March 13th and 14th. It is a unique opportunity for researchers, developers and students to meet in person and exchange insights on object databases. The conference will address people who are interested in object databases, innovative ways to bring objects and databases together, alternatives/extensions to relational databases / mappers and database insights.

The conference is organized by an independent committee, headed by Prof. Dr. Stefan Edlich (TFH-Berlin) and James Paterson (Glasgow Caledonian University), and supported by ODBMS.org, ODBMS Vendors, and TFH-Berlin.

The conference will take place at the University of Applied Sciences TFH-Berlin. On Thursday, “Science Day”, the focus will be on the the theory of object databases whereas Friday, “Application Day”, will focus on their practical use and implementation. For more information on keynotes, talks and conference tracks please visit the conference web site.

With object oriented programming languages now fully in the mainstream object databases are unlocking possibilities never thought of before. The database is no longer confined to storing data sets in rows and columns but allows us to persist complex object graphs instantly as they are. That said, object database management systems (ODBMs) aren’t always a perfect fit. One purpose of the ICOODB conference is to provide you with a better understanding of where to use ODBMSs and why. In this spirit we invite everyone to join this conference, propose a paper or a talk, show a poster or simply visit us or get in touch with us.

The conference is calling for contribution in the following areas: General Research on Object Databases, Comparisons of ODBM Technologies, Industry Case Studies – Practical Applications, Performance, Query Languages, Architectures and Patterns, Embedded Systems and ODBMS, Highly Available / Scalable ODBMS, ODBMS in different Programming Languages, ODBMS Standards, Education using Object Databases, Object Database Implementation Strategies and more.
