(Dubai, United Arab Emirates – 23 October, 2011) It’s time to talk retail real estate, and the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres (MECSC) could not be more thrilled to lead the conversation with its 2011 RECon MENA conference. Very similar to shopping centers, RECon MENA brings the industry together so that they can make connections, evaluate new products and services, and leave with some valuable goods in the form of networking, educational opportunities, and vital industry insights. As one of the Middle East’s largest retail real estate conventions, RECon MENA will be focused on perpetuating and promoting the success of the shopping centre industry in the Middle East and North Africa through the discussion of key topics including outlet retailing opportunities and the future of luxury. Taking place on November 28-29 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, this year’s RECon MENA event is one of the industry’s most valuable assets.

“RECon Middle East & North Africa sets the stage year after year providing an exclusive opportunity for the industry to come together to network, share information, discuss ideas, evaluate opportunities and develop business partnerships,” said MECSC Chairman, Majid Saif Al Ghurair, president, Burjuman. “At this year’s RECon MENA, a majority of our discussions will be focused on ways in which we can strengthen retail real estate in the Middle East and North Africa, and in turn, our industry as a whole. We are looking forward to this year’s event, and can only foresee positive changes in the months to come.”

RECon MENA will kick off on Monday, November 28, 2011 with MECSC’s Chairman Majid Saif Al Ghurair’s welcome address, followed by a series of industry speakers. A variety of information will be provided including a global overview of retail projects and trends, as well as some examples of retail innovation and new thinking from around the world. In addition, useful insights will be given on how research and statistical resources can be used to make sound business decisions.

One of Monday’s most important discussions will regard outlet retailing’s untapped markets, and the opportunities it presents for brands in the Middle East. From the U.S. to Japan and China, to Western and Eastern Europe, outlet retailing has proven to be a precious commodity for the retail industry. It provides quite literally an outlet for brands to reach new customers, broaden their manufacturing, create operating efficiencies, regulate their image, and, of course, make additional profits. This discussion will primarily focus on the many benefits that outlet retailing has to offer the Middle East and how in today’s economy, nothing attracts consumers more than luxury goods at discounted prices. [Editor’s note: To see a video about the “Outlet Retailing’s Untapped Markets: Opportunities for Brands in the Middle East” session please click here]

The second day of the conference will begin on November 29, 2011. Topics of focus will include the current condition of the global retail landscape and the factors that may cause it to change in the years to come. Other sessions will discuss current trends in e-commerce and the opportunities it offers the retail industry, as well as the importance of retail brands connecting emotionally with their customers.

¬Tuesday’s final session will be dedicated to examining the future of luxury. Speaker Paola De Luca, forecaster & creative director for Trend Vision Jewelry & Forecasting Division-Vicenza Fair, Italy, will discuss how the evolution of societies throughout the world as well as socio-cultural changes are driving the demand for luxury goods. As she predicts Season 2013 and beyond, Paola will explore the identities of today’s luxury consumers, how they differ throughout various parts of the world, and the things that make them tick. Retail sector expected to exceed US$ 500 billion by 2010

InRetail 2008 will bring together retail design and management experts under one roof

The Middle East is in the midst of an unprecedented economic boom, and leading this surge is the retail sector. No other industry in the Arabian Gulf is expected to grow faster than the retail sector, and according to regional industry forecasts the sector is projected to exceed US$ 500 billion by 2010. The region currently enjoys 6 million square metres of retail space, with another 5 million under development and many more plans in the pipeline.

According to the latest Middle East survey by Retail International, Dubai leads the way in terms of density of shopping œfootage, making up more than 50% of the UAE’s sum total. It makes perfect business sense that Dubai is the venue of choice for InRetail, the region’s leading trade show for the design, fit-out and operational management of retail outlets, supermarkets and shopping malls in the Arabian Gulf.

The 2008 edition of this world-class event will be held from 8 to 10 June 2008 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, and will once again showcase the latest and best retail innovations featuring world renowned manufacturers alongside the region’s largest agents and distributors.

According to Ms. Paula Al Chami, Exhibition Director of the InRetail 2008 trade show, this is just the beginning of a bright future for the retail industry. “Over the next 5 years, the GCC will have more than 200 retail developments that will occupy in excess of 11 million square feet of retail space and accommodate more than 27,000 retailers she said. These are mind-boggling figures, and those associated with the industry have to stay up to date with the rest of the world if they wish to stay competitive. The transition to custom-designed shopping complexes across the region, together with the proliferation of branded store networks, has created an acute need for professionals to stay in touch with the latest trends and best practices in the industry added Ms. Chami.

InRetail 2008 will be a one-of-a-kind platform for those involved in the design, fit-out and operational management of retail outlets, supermarkets and shopping malls in the Arabian Gulf. The event will primarily focus on three major product sectors – shopfitting & visual merchandising, retail design & consultancy and supply chain management & technology. The exhibition will also feature the ‘Innovations in Retail 2008’ seminars, bringing together the most prominent international experts in the industry to help Gulf professionals remain up to date with the latest and the best, and deliver world-class retail design and management to the region.

JEWELLERY TRADE DUBAI, THE PERFECT PLATFORM FOR DUBAI’S JEWELLERY RETAIL TRADE MARKET WHICH STANDS AT $1.5B

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

This year’s Dubai International Jewellery Week features an exclusive traders-only show, Jewellery Trade Dubai

The Dubai International Jewellery Week (formerly known as Watch & Jewellery Dubai) has unveiled a brand new format for 2007. Firmly established as the leading show of its kind in Dubai, the event has seen the number of visitors and exhibitors rapidly rising with each passing edition. This year, the organiser Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has repositioned the show to present Dubai International Jewellery Week featuring three specific shows dedicated to targeted sectors of the jewellery industry. Besides the ultra-luxurious Areeq Dubai and the retail-specific Jewellery Collections Dubai, the show will have a dedicated event devoted to the all-important trade professionals of the industry – Jewellery Trade Dubai.

Jewellery Trade Dubai is the sole trade only focused jewellery event in the Middle East, giving serious buyers, industry professionals and international traders a golden opportunity to meet, interact and share the latest information amongst their peers. Traders, manufacturers and suppliers from the Gulf, North Africa, India and beyond will be a part of the event. With Dubai’s jewellery retail trade standing at $1.5 billion, having an exclusive traders-only platform makes perfect business sense. The trade exhibition plays a crucial role in the success of the jewellery industry,â€? said Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of DWTC the show’s organiser. The traders are in the best position to network with fellow industry players from across the globe, and their ability to reach out to a mass market cannot be underestimated. Jewellery Trade Dubai offers traders and serious buyers an exclusive platform to strengthen their reach and potential and underlines how crucial their contribution is he added.

A host of strategic initiatives lends a strong support system to the jewellery traders market in the UAE. Trade and retail bodies like the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE), Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange, and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) have exclusive international affiliations and have been established to promote the jewellery trade and maintain the highest quality standards possible. These focused organisations will be working in close conjunction with Dubai International Jewellery Week and DWTC to ensure that this booming trade market gets all the support and promotion it needs.

We are very excited to be a part of Dubai International Jewellery Week once again said Mr Youri Steverlynck, the CEO of Dubai Diamond Exchange. “Both our organisation and the Dubai International Jewellery Week have similar target markets, common goals and shared audiences. Joining hands will only result in assisting the market to develop and grow, he added.

As a member of the World Trade Organisation, the UAE has extensive trade relations and strong foreign economic ties with more than 165 countries across the globe, further strengthening the potential for jewellery trade. With Dubai’s gold exports expected to double over the next five years, the stage is set for this one-of-a-kind, traders-only forum to add to the momentum.

Leading companies already exhibiting at Jewellery Trade Dubai include some of the biggest names in the market, such as AMC, DDE, Dhamani, Dhruvstar, DMCC, Renaissance Diamonds and Shrenuj. Mr. Deepak Lakhi, Managing Director of Sparklers International, said “We have participated in, and visited numerous shows with diverse target audiences, but a platform like Jewellery Trade Dubai is markedly different. Since it is a trade only show, it gives us the opportunity to meet a focused target audience. We are one of the largest producers of polished diamonds in the world, producing diamonds of all sizes from below one pointer to above 1.00 carat and in colors ranging from white to lower browns, in fine make, and a show like this opens up new avenues for us. We will be using the show as a platform to unveil a one-of-a-kind diamond called Pristine Hearts, which has a worldwide patent. Each of these unique diamonds has a heart carved in it and is created by master craftsmen. We look forward to interacting with numerous important industry players at the show.

An important aspect of Jewellery Trade Dubai will be a series of free trade seminars that will be held during the show. Featuring CEOs and Directors of renowned jewellery houses as well as senior industry analysts, the trade seminars will touch upon all areas including finance, new products, laboratory procedures and emerging markets. The distinguished panel of speakers will include Mr Moaz Barakat of the World Gold Council, who will share crucial insights about marketing gold jewellery as an everyday fashion item. Mr Russell Shor of Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will touch upon a variety of topics from thriving international markets like China and Africa to new products and even how new financial developments will affect the industry. The scientific side of things like the latest laboratory techniques and new marketing ideas will be discussed in detail by Mr Roland Loire of International Gemological Institute (IGI).

Jewellery Trade Dubai will be held in Hall 4 of the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre between 4pm and 10pm on the 11- 13 December 2007. Professionals wishing to take part in Jewellery Trade Dubai can register in advance online at www.jewelleryshow.com or onsite at the venue. A minimum age restriction of 16 years applies for entry into the show.

United Arab Emirates, November 12th 2007. - As the Emirate of Dubai gets ready for another annual Shopping Festival, and tens of thousands of visitors are booking their flights from all over the globe, industry statistics are telling an extraordinary tale.

Not only will Dubai have sixteen times more sales floor space in malls per capita than the European Union, retail spend in the Emirate is expected to exceed US$ 7.6 billion by 2009. By that time, Saudi Arabia is looking at US$ 6 billion, and Abu Dhabi at US$ 1.9 billion. Similar remarkable data apply to the other countries in GCC region.

As a result, global and local brands are queuing up to open outlets, franchises are multiplying, and architects and designers are hiring extra staff to cope with the demand for enticing retail interiors.

Specifiers and industry buyers alike are already looking forward to the third InRetail trade fair, which will take place from 8-10 June 2008, at the Dubai International Exhibition & Convention Centre. This is the main annual event for the industry in the region, introducing the latest display systems and furniture, the most up-to-date technology and tantalising merchandising, while bringing together global experts and industry players from all levels of the retail industry. Visitor attendance at InRetail 2007 grew by a phenomenal 66%, a trend which is bound to continue in 2008.

Well aware of the requirements of retail professionals in the Arabian Gulf region, InRetail 2008 will focus on the three major product sectors which are of immediate concern to them. They are: Shopfitting & Visual merchandising, Retail Design & Consultancy, and Supply Chain Management & Technology.

Among the products and services covered in the Shopfitting & Visual Merchandising sector are: display systems, furniture, signage, mannequins, trolleys, lighting, flooring, joinery, turnkey systems and more.
Retail design & Consultancy features architectural and interior design services, project management, staff training, brand development, themed environments, concept retailing.

The Supply chain management & Technology sector includes IT solutions, security systems, stock control and logistics, CRM, ePoS, freight systems, audio-visual techniques, etc.

The importance of good retail design cannot be overstated, and is directly linked to product sales and success, said Exhibition Director Paula Al Chami. The InRetail exhibition will welcome architects and designers, retailers, supermarket and shopping mall developers to meet with global exhibitors from the key sectors of the retail industry. It is the most important forum for the industry professionals, where exhibitors provide valuable knowledge and expertise, ensuring that the region continues to be at the forefront of the consumer shopping experience.

GCC’s retail industry growing from strength to strength

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

dmg world media Dubai Ltd, the organisers of the highly successful InRetail exhibition, sums up the booming GCC retail market.

United Arab Emirates 22nd October 2007 – It was a seemingly endless reserve of oil and path-breaking trade routes that first put the GCC on the global economic map. But of late, the main chapter in the GCC success story has been the phenomenally successful retail industry. Worth approximately $100 billion, the retail sector is today a major driving force behind the economies of the six-nation strong GCC and has become the second largest industry after oil production.

The region’s reputation as a shopper’s paradise continues to grow with every passing year, and thousands of retail outlets are queuing up to add their neon names to the region’s glittering streets, malls and skylines. According to RetailME magazine, by 2009, retail spend in Dubai’s shopping malls alone is expected to exceed US$7.6 billion and Abu Dhabi’s by US$1.9 billion. Its neighbors are close on its heels, with Saudi Arabia crossing US$6 billion.

Dubai alone will have 16 times more sales floor space in malls per capita than the average for the EU25. The IMP puts the 2006 growth rate of the UAE at 10.5%, which is one of the fastest rates worldwide, and the Dubai Strategic Plan announced by the ruler of Dubai in February 2007 projects an 11% annual growth up to 2015, thereby tripling the current level of GDP. Bahrain and Qatar, fuelled by internationally recognized events like the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Asian Games respectively, are also making massive inroads into the retail market. Even Oman, which is a relatively quiet retail market, has joined the fray. A study conducted by Global Investment House on Oman’s real estate sector show that hotels are at nearly 100% occupancy, indicating a large upswing in tourism.

Some of the most unique retail projects in the world have sprung out of the desert sand. Dubai Mall, for instance, will be the largest mall in the world. Again, Dubai’s neighbors are not to be outdone, and have responded with the USD$266 million Al Shobily Grand Mall in Saudi Arabia, the US$400 million City Centre in Bahrain and the US$52 million Dar Al Awadi Centre in Kuwait. A stable political environment, an extremely high per capita income and top-of-the-line infrastructure makes this region all the more attractive for retail investors. The retail market is tailor-made to suit every economic strata of society, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

The region is therefore the ideal location for path-breaking exhibitions like InRetail, which brings together players from all levels of the retail industry under one roof. In its third year, InRetail will be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from 8th to 10th June 2008, and will focus on attracting architects and designers, retailers, supermarket and shopping mall developers to meet with global exhibitors from the three key sectors of the retail industry shopfitting and visual merchandising, retail design and consultancy, supply chain management and technology said Paula Al Chami, the exhibition organizer. “This is an important forum for the retail industry as the exhibitors provide valuable knowledge, expertise and insight that will ensure the region continues to be at the forefront of the consumer shopping experience she added.

If the last decade of retail growth in the GCC and the last two editions of InRetail are a parameter for judging the success of the retail industry in the region, then the future looks brighter than ever!

Record Visitors Attend InRetail and Office Exhibition 2007

Monday, July 9th, 2007

United Arab Emirates, 4th July 2007- dmg world media, organisers of InRetail and the Office Exhibition, have announced significant increases in visitor numbers for the shows this year, both of which were held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from 3rd to 5th June.

The announcement may come as no surprise when both shows represent industries that are increasingly considered at the forefront of shaping today’s Middle Eastern economies.

At a time when the opening of a new state-of-the-art shopping mall seems the norm rather than the exception, InRetail Exhibition brings together the leading professionals from every segment of the retail industry, from retail design, shopfitting and visual merchandising, to the most recent state-of-the-art in-store technologies, and the latest developments in customer service, marketing and logistics.

And with the region’s current demand for quality new office space, the Office Exhibition also, offers a comprehensive range of office systems, including high-end furnishings, interior design, and storage systems.

The visitor figures also suggest that the level of international interest is increasing at a similar rate to both UAE and GCC markets. InRetail 2007 saw visitor increases of 79% for UAE residents, 69% for the GCC, and 68% for international visitors. With similar consistency, the Office Exhibition saw visitor growth of 23%, 20% and 21% respectively.

So too do the offerings of exhibitors significantly increase in sophistication from year to year, observes Paula Al Chami from dmg world media.

This is probably one of the most interesting aspects of the shows – how styles and technologies move on so drastically in the space of just one year, comments Paula. And this is also the ideal time for many exhibitors. More than ever before, companies in the region are really open to learning how they can use the latest innovations and technologies to improve their business.

Next year’s exhibitions are scheduled for 8th – 10th June 2008 for InRetail and 4th – 6th February 2008 for The Office Exhibition at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.
