InRetail 2008 will bring together retail design and management experts under one roof

The Middle East is in the midst of an unprecedented economic boom, and leading this surge is the retail sector. No other industry in the Arabian Gulf is expected to grow faster than the retail sector, and according to regional industry forecasts the sector is projected to exceed US$ 500 billion by 2010. The region currently enjoys 6 million square metres of retail space, with another 5 million under development and many more plans in the pipeline.

According to the latest Middle East survey by Retail International, Dubai leads the way in terms of density of shopping œfootage, making up more than 50% of the UAE’s sum total. It makes perfect business sense that Dubai is the venue of choice for InRetail, the region’s leading trade show for the design, fit-out and operational management of retail outlets, supermarkets and shopping malls in the Arabian Gulf.

The 2008 edition of this world-class event will be held from 8 to 10 June 2008 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, and will once again showcase the latest and best retail innovations featuring world renowned manufacturers alongside the region’s largest agents and distributors.

According to Ms. Paula Al Chami, Exhibition Director of the InRetail 2008 trade show, this is just the beginning of a bright future for the retail industry. “Over the next 5 years, the GCC will have more than 200 retail developments that will occupy in excess of 11 million square feet of retail space and accommodate more than 27,000 retailers she said. These are mind-boggling figures, and those associated with the industry have to stay up to date with the rest of the world if they wish to stay competitive. The transition to custom-designed shopping complexes across the region, together with the proliferation of branded store networks, has created an acute need for professionals to stay in touch with the latest trends and best practices in the industry added Ms. Chami.

InRetail 2008 will be a one-of-a-kind platform for those involved in the design, fit-out and operational management of retail outlets, supermarkets and shopping malls in the Arabian Gulf. The event will primarily focus on three major product sectors – shopfitting & visual merchandising, retail design & consultancy and supply chain management & technology. The exhibition will also feature the ‘Innovations in Retail 2008’ seminars, bringing together the most prominent international experts in the industry to help Gulf professionals remain up to date with the latest and the best, and deliver world-class retail design and management to the region.

United Arab Emirates December 4th 2007- “Inspire us was the challenge given by Frezza SpA to architectural and design students at two UAE universities: the American University in Dubai and the American University in Sharjah.

Each will be competing live to design a range of office furniture which will be judged by renowned office furniture manufacturer Frezza SpA at The Office Exhibition.

The winning students will win a once in a lifetime tour of the Frezza facility in Venice, Italy to meet their world class designers.

The Office Exhibition 2008 will be important for our students: not only one will it give them international exposure, it will also offer a unique opportunity to participate in the design and production of an important range of office furniture in Italy. I am delighted to see that international companies are opening doors for students to get involved in their design activities through this competition, and more importantly, by dedicating some of their busy time in critiquing their design projects. Such competitions will further enhance students confidence and prepare them for their professional life.” Dr. Linda Nubani, Assistant Professor of Interior Design, American University in Dubai

“Our students are excited about presenting their work in The Office Exhibition student feature sponsored by Frezza. The opportunity to compete for a chance to visit the home base of Frezza in Italy has added an extra incentive to their labours this semester. Ultimately, the prospect of having their projects evaluated by representatives of an internationally respected furniture manufacturer is the greatest prize–this kind of critical feedback is invaluable in their continuing design education.” Bill Sarnecky, Assistant Professor of Architecture, School of Architecture + Design, American University of Sharjah

GCC’s retail industry growing from strength to strength

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

dmg world media Dubai Ltd, the organisers of the highly successful InRetail exhibition, sums up the booming GCC retail market.

United Arab Emirates 22nd October 2007 – It was a seemingly endless reserve of oil and path-breaking trade routes that first put the GCC on the global economic map. But of late, the main chapter in the GCC success story has been the phenomenally successful retail industry. Worth approximately $100 billion, the retail sector is today a major driving force behind the economies of the six-nation strong GCC and has become the second largest industry after oil production.

The region’s reputation as a shopper’s paradise continues to grow with every passing year, and thousands of retail outlets are queuing up to add their neon names to the region’s glittering streets, malls and skylines. According to RetailME magazine, by 2009, retail spend in Dubai’s shopping malls alone is expected to exceed US$7.6 billion and Abu Dhabi’s by US$1.9 billion. Its neighbors are close on its heels, with Saudi Arabia crossing US$6 billion.

Dubai alone will have 16 times more sales floor space in malls per capita than the average for the EU25. The IMP puts the 2006 growth rate of the UAE at 10.5%, which is one of the fastest rates worldwide, and the Dubai Strategic Plan announced by the ruler of Dubai in February 2007 projects an 11% annual growth up to 2015, thereby tripling the current level of GDP. Bahrain and Qatar, fuelled by internationally recognized events like the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Asian Games respectively, are also making massive inroads into the retail market. Even Oman, which is a relatively quiet retail market, has joined the fray. A study conducted by Global Investment House on Oman’s real estate sector show that hotels are at nearly 100% occupancy, indicating a large upswing in tourism.

Some of the most unique retail projects in the world have sprung out of the desert sand. Dubai Mall, for instance, will be the largest mall in the world. Again, Dubai’s neighbors are not to be outdone, and have responded with the USD$266 million Al Shobily Grand Mall in Saudi Arabia, the US$400 million City Centre in Bahrain and the US$52 million Dar Al Awadi Centre in Kuwait. A stable political environment, an extremely high per capita income and top-of-the-line infrastructure makes this region all the more attractive for retail investors. The retail market is tailor-made to suit every economic strata of society, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

The region is therefore the ideal location for path-breaking exhibitions like InRetail, which brings together players from all levels of the retail industry under one roof. In its third year, InRetail will be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from 8th to 10th June 2008, and will focus on attracting architects and designers, retailers, supermarket and shopping mall developers to meet with global exhibitors from the three key sectors of the retail industry shopfitting and visual merchandising, retail design and consultancy, supply chain management and technology said Paula Al Chami, the exhibition organizer. “This is an important forum for the retail industry as the exhibitors provide valuable knowledge, expertise and insight that will ensure the region continues to be at the forefront of the consumer shopping experience she added.

If the last decade of retail growth in the GCC and the last two editions of InRetail are a parameter for judging the success of the retail industry in the region, then the future looks brighter than ever!

New Dates Announced for The Office Exhibition 2008

Friday, July 20th, 2007

United Arab Emirates, 9th July 2007: With the enormous amount of interest generated by The Office Exhibition this year, it has been decided to move the dates for next year’s show. Today the shows organisers, dmg world media, announced that 2008’s show, which has historically been held during the early part of June at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, will be held from 4th to 6th February. The venue will remain the same.

The move is mainly on request from many of the exhibitors that have already booked their place for next year’s show, says Paula Al Chami from dmg world media. Over the past few years, the exhibition has grown so fast that it now stands on a par with any of the longer established international shows.

With The Office Exhibition now being an important forum for global office furniture manufacturers, we’ve had an overwhelming request to move the dates, as they don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to participate in next year’s show. Especially with the impressive increase in visitor numbers, which showed a further 21% increase from 2006 to 2007.

The Office Exhibition has become renowned for representing the very latest in high-end furnishings, interiors and office design. Coupled with the highly popular Workplace Freedom Seminars, which brings leading international specialists to share their knowledge and expertise on workplace-related developments and innovations.

Every year the show grows from strength to strength and is considered by exhibitors as their flagship office furniture and office design event in the Arabian Gulf, adds Paula. This year’s show covered 7,700m2 in total, a 54% increase on last year. With the interest we’ve had so far for next February, 2008 will be the biggest show yet.

Record Visitors Attend InRetail and Office Exhibition 2007

Monday, July 9th, 2007

United Arab Emirates, 4th July 2007- dmg world media, organisers of InRetail and the Office Exhibition, have announced significant increases in visitor numbers for the shows this year, both of which were held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from 3rd to 5th June.

The announcement may come as no surprise when both shows represent industries that are increasingly considered at the forefront of shaping today’s Middle Eastern economies.

At a time when the opening of a new state-of-the-art shopping mall seems the norm rather than the exception, InRetail Exhibition brings together the leading professionals from every segment of the retail industry, from retail design, shopfitting and visual merchandising, to the most recent state-of-the-art in-store technologies, and the latest developments in customer service, marketing and logistics.

And with the region’s current demand for quality new office space, the Office Exhibition also, offers a comprehensive range of office systems, including high-end furnishings, interior design, and storage systems.

The visitor figures also suggest that the level of international interest is increasing at a similar rate to both UAE and GCC markets. InRetail 2007 saw visitor increases of 79% for UAE residents, 69% for the GCC, and 68% for international visitors. With similar consistency, the Office Exhibition saw visitor growth of 23%, 20% and 21% respectively.

So too do the offerings of exhibitors significantly increase in sophistication from year to year, observes Paula Al Chami from dmg world media.

This is probably one of the most interesting aspects of the shows – how styles and technologies move on so drastically in the space of just one year, comments Paula. And this is also the ideal time for many exhibitors. More than ever before, companies in the region are really open to learning how they can use the latest innovations and technologies to improve their business.

Next year’s exhibitions are scheduled for 8th – 10th June 2008 for InRetail and 4th – 6th February 2008 for The Office Exhibition at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.

The Office Exhibition 2007 confirms its Workplace Freedom Seminar Programme

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

United Arab Emirates, 21st May 2007 – In addition to the extensive range of products, services and cutting edge technologies on offer at The Office Exhibition, this annual event has long been renowned for its innovative and forward looking programme of Workplace Freedom Seminars, held durating the show, and with contributions from some of the leading international authorities in office design and innovation.

Paula Al Chami, the exhibition’s organiser, explains the Workplace Freedom concept:

Today’s office is much more than a standard workspace. It is an opportunity to create a motivating, communicative and innovative environment, she says. And with an increasing number of posture-related injuries, not to mention the enormous amount of productivity that companies lose every year as a result, the ergonomic design of work areas is also extremely high on the agenda.

And as always, many of the topics at this year’s seminar, to be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from the 3rd to 5th June, will focus on the office of the future, presented by some of the leading authorities in office design. Issues such as how can interior design impact informal interactions (an increasingly important aspect of company innovation), or third space social areas? Or how can you prepare for and facilitate the inevitable aspect of change in the workplace?

Also on the programme is the concept of the Village Office – a working environment which incorporates both business and leisure needs, as boundaries between living and working become increasingly blurred; how the future office will strike a balance between corporate standards and creativity; and the growing role of mobility in business communications.

That’s what the show is all about, concludes Paula. Looking to the future to create office environments that truly reflect the needs of staff, ensuring productivity and staff retention in the long term.

UAE Exhibitors Turn Out in Force for The Office Exhibition 2007

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

United Arab Emirates, 8th May 2007 – As well as offering a wide range of international exhibitors, this year’s Office Exhibition, to be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre from the 3rd to 5th June, will be strongly represented by UAE exhibitors. The exhibition centres around office furnishings, design and interiors.

Making their debut at The Office Exhibition will be UAE distributor Total Office, who will be showcasing world renowned manufacturer Teknion and their range of filing and storage systems which include Ledger, Almanac, Origami, Chronicle, and Universal Overhead. Also being showcased on the Total Office stand will be Italian manufacturers Frezza, Emmegi, Codutti to name a few.

Also present at the event will be well-established UAE firm Gemaco Interiors, whose client base includes some of the UAE’s most prestigious organisations, representing over 30 manufacturers from the US, Europe and Far East. One such company is US giant Haworth, which for the past sixty years has offered award winning office seating, desking and storage systems.

Al Shamsi Enterprises will be showcasing some of the world’s finest manufacturers such as Knoll International which will be launching WA, a furniture system designed by Piero Lissoni with Marc Krusin. Also on the Al Shamsi stand will be The Permasa Group who will be presenting three new collections – Techna, Oikos and Synthesis. The first two have been launched on the market in recent months, and Synthesis will be launched exclusively at the show.

Last but not least is Technoshades, which offers solar control solutions through both interior and exterior shading systems to manage light and energy. The company emphasises its commitment to excellence in design, materials and construction unparalleled in the industry. Its shading systems are designed with the flexibility to protect sunlight at any time of day and season.

Over the past few years, the UAE exhibitors have really built up a first-rate offering, says Paula Al Chami, the exhibition’s organiser. “Plus many of them have been operating here for a number of years, so they have the added advantage that they know the market. I think that the UAE firms are set to do really well at the show this year.
