China has surpassed the United States to become the world’s largest energy user, according to Paris-based International Energy Agency. As a rapid growing China’s GDP, it will continue to drive up the domestic energy consumption. The renewables, such as nuclear, wind and solar energy are no doubt seen as the favorable means to complement the energy shortage. A Stronger and Smarter Grid in China will pave the road of the renewables utilization and raise energy efficiency to cut emissions.
Grid is the world’s most complex man-made systems, information, mass, control complex, which also determines the different national conditions, the country’s development direction and focus of the smart grid are also different. In China, strong smart grid is primarily a strong grid, whose extra-high voltage technology has core characteristics including long distance, high capacity and low loss efficiency. But “should be ’strong’ and ’smart’ the advantages of a collection in one person.” This view is being more recognized and accepted. UHV grid as the backbone, with coordinated development of subordinate grids at all levels and support of IT & telecommunication platform, featured by IT-based, interactive and automated. Strong and Smart are two basic requirements for modern power grid development. Strong is the basis and smart is the key. Combination of strong grid structure and grid smartness is the feature of describing modern power grid development by integral and systematic means. Furthermore, the end-users and distribution networks in China are not as mature as most developed countries, and the penetration rate of small-scale renewables are relatively low at the moment. In fact, growth of renewable energy in the country is primarily driven by large-scale projects that do not directly connected to end-users. Given these conditions, it is expected that initial stages of the Chinese smart grid plan will focus on the ability of controlling bulk electricity transfer efficiently, and then moves towards end-users and services integration in the next stages when the users are becoming more ready.
At the same time, the second stage of China’s Smart Grid plan, from 2011 to 2015, not only focus on accelerating UHV, urban and rural grids construction, but also establishing the basic framework for smart grid operation control and interaction, achieving the projected advancements in technology and equipment production, mass deployment. For example, in China ‘smart grid’, are estimated to be a nearly $100 billion opportunity over the next five years. With total power capacity set to reach 1,430 gigawatt by 2015 from 874 gigawatt at the start of 2010, China has to figure out how to bring trillions of kilowatt hours of power to more than a billion customers, sometimes over very long distances.
Smart-grid technology brings power grids into the telecommunications age, connecting “smart meters” in households and businesses to central monitoring systems capable of detecting and redressing outages or overloads in an instant.
The installation of smart meters alone will be worth $3.1 billion in 2011, up from $2.4 billion this year, according to estimates by the China Electricity Council — and foreign firms are already looking to supply components, control and automation systems, and know-how. (from Reuters)
With this mind, the CDMC Smart Grid Series Forum, as a professional and unparallel communication platform, concentrates on supporting an intelligent network and a global vision to our high-level worldwide industrial partners for three year. The 3rd Annual Smart Grid Forum China Focus 2011 (Sep. 15th -17th 2011) will bring industry thought leaders and a focused group of audience together to discuss the policy & the regulatory landscape, smart grid standardization, customer-side issues (billing, metering & CRM), ICT, smart distribution and smart integration of renewables.
The Organizing Committee of the 3rd Annual China Smart Grid Forum 2011 is looking forward your participation in Shanghai.

London, UK: Tuesday 22nd January, 2008 – Hemisphere Expo Services, producers of the Telepresence World Conference Series (www.telepresenceworld.com), announced today the featured speakers and panellists who will address attendees of Telepresence World 2008 London, which will take place on 18th – 19th March at ExCel London, the internationally acclaimed exhibition and conference centre located in the UK’s capital city.
The conference, which will showcase the latest state-of-the-art systems designed to enable and enhance collaboration and reduce the need for in-person meetings, will focus on real-world applications of telepresence and will feature case studies, roundtables, and business analyses led by industry leaders. Speakers will explore a wide variety of topics ranging from management of the global enterprise via telepresence to ways that the technology can reduce the corporate carbon footprint and contribute to the development of sustainable business models.
Marc Trachtenberg, who is a Co-Founder of Teliris as well as its CEO, will lead off the Conference on March 18 with a powerful and highly interactive look at the multi-faceted ways that telepresence will continue to change business practises around the world.
According to Mr. Trachtenberg, “It is hard to believe that it was slightly less than a decade ago that Teliris introduced the first telepresence system. In that short time, companies of all sizes, all over the world have realized the tremendous value of this unique technology and its implications for managing rising costs, fostering deeper, more effective communication and decision making and even addressing corporate environmental responsibility. And this is just the beginning — telepresence will eventually become an irreplaceable asset within each and every organization that needs to meet in a natural, immersive way across distance.
According to Ken Crangle, vice president, Diamond Sponsor HP Halo Telepresence Solutions, “As global enterprise becomes more distributed and complex, more effective ways to collaborate and communicate are key to increasing business productivity, furthering collaboration and reducing corporate travel expenses. HP Halo Telepresence Solutions are already used by some of the world’s leading companies such as ABN Amro, AMD, BHP Billiton, DreamWorks Animation and PepsiCo to foster more personal connections while reducing the burden of travel and to make business decisions faster and with greater control. Teliris, Cisco, and Hewlett-Packard join as Diamond Sponsors with many more to follow
Steamboat Springs, CO (November 26, 2007) Telepresence World Conference Organizer Hemisphere Expo Services, Inc, has announced plans for the next Telepresence World Conference event that will showcase the latest high-tech alternatives to traveling for face-to-face meetings. Telepresence World 2008 London (http://www.telepresenceworld.com) will take place March 18 -19, 2008, at the internationally acclaimed ExCel London Exhibition and Conference Centre in the UK’s capital city.
“You have to experience it to believe it is often heard when describing telepresence. Telepresence meetings make remote participants life-size, with fluid motion, accurate flesh-tones, eye-to-eye contact, and flawless audio. The experience feels remarkably natural and comfortable for almost any size meeting from two people to large classrooms.
According to Mark Barounos, President of Hemisphere Expo Services, the use of telepresence technology for business applications “has increased dramatically since the inaugural Telepresence World Conference was held in San Diego, CA, in June of 2007.
“Telepresence vendors such as Cisco and Teliris are reporting mounting numbers of customers world-wide. John Chambers recently said that installations of Cisco’s virtual meeting solution grew by over 400% in the last business quarter alone. This overwhelming acceptance of telepresence as a practical option to in-person conferencing has definitely pushed the technology from emerging to mainstream.
Due to the increasing recognition that telepresence can enable collaboration while reducing the carbon footprint and costs associated with corporate travel, Barounos expects turnout for the London event to be in excess of over 700 delegates. To allow greater participation in UK, the venue for Telepresence World 2008 London was recently moved to the spectacular ExCel London Exhibition and Conference Centre located near the London City Airport and Canary Wharf. The stunning waterfront setting includes a variety of hotels, restaurants, and pubs and is adjacent to the Royal Victoria Dock, which was originally established by Prince Albert in 1855. Since opening in 2000, ExCeL London has hosted more than 1,700 events. Notes Barounos, “the expanded facilities and centralized location of the ExCel will greatly enhance the conference experience for attendees, speakers, and exhibitors alike, and it will allow us to present some very exciting sessions involving high-profile participants.
Telepresence World 2008 London will encompass two days of plenary sessions, panel discussions, case studies, roundtables, exhibits, and telepresence demonstrations focusing on real-world applications of telepresence. Frost & Sullivan, a world renowned corporate analyst firm, has partnered with Telepresence World to provide market leadership, perspective, and insight. The Organizers are also collaborating with the UK-based Carbon Neutral Company (TCNC) to make the conference a carbon-neutral event–carbon emissions created locally by the meeting will be measured and offset, resulting in a net zero carbon footprint. Delegates traveling to the conference by air will be encouraged to offset the carbon emissions generated from their journey via participation in a variety of international carbon mitigation programs.
Global Telecom leaders Teliris–recent winner of the Frost & Sullivan 2007 Market Leadership Award in the Telepresence Industry; Cisco—the premiere provider of cutting edge technologies designed to transform how people connect, communicate, and collaborate; and Hewlett-Packardwho recently teamed up with TANDBERG to provide a solution that links their Halo Collaboration Studio to other standards-based videoconferencing systems have signed on as Diamond Sponsors for the conference. As such, they will play integral roles in supporting the event and shaping the future role of telepresence in business, academic, and research endeavors.
Network sponsorship for Telepresence World 2008 London will be provided by Masergy Communications. Organizational supporters include the Interactive Media & Collaborative Communications Alliance (IMCCA) and the International Society of Presence Research (ISPR). Audio Visual Magazine, AV News, Business Trends Quarterly, Connect World, Education Business, European CEO, Future Healthcare, Future Pharmaceuticals, Government Technology, Health Business, New Media Age, and Total Telecom are among a growing listing of media sponsors who have signed on to promote the event.
Additional major sponsor announcements will be released in the next few weeks; however partner and exhibitor opportunities are still available; please email email@example.com for details.
