MiningWorld Central Asia 2009 innovations and successes of Kazakhstan’s mining sector.

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

On 16-18 September 2009, key members of Kazakhstan’s mining industry gathered at the country’s leading mining exhibition, MiningWorld Central Asia. The event attracted lots of attention from the industry professionals in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, disproving the pre-show concerns of a low turn-out.

Once again, the event brought together several co-located specialised exhibitions: MiningWorld Central Asia 2009 (the 15th Central Asian International Mining Exploration and Mining Equipment Exhibition), Kazcomak 2009 (the 6th Kazakhstan International Heavy Construction & Machinery) and KazMet 2009 (the 2nd Central Asian International Metallurgy, Metal-Working and Machinery Construction Exhibition). The co-location of these events meant that all participating companies benefited from dedicated and joint promotion that attracted a larger and more diverse range of specialist trade visitors to the event.

Out of all the events, MiningWorld Central Asia was the largest, bringing together a host of manufacturers and suppliers for the mining and ore processing industries. International event manager, Anna Aleinikova, comments: “MiningWorld Central Asia is valued by a huge variety of companies around the world. I have been lucky enough to see many companies introduced to the Kazakhstan market through MiningWorld Central Asia and watch them establish a niche in this dynamic market. MiningWorld Central Asia is arguably the most effective forum for the mining industry in the Central Asian region.

This year, the overall event featured 246 companies from 24 countries, including leading global brands, such as Atlas Copco Central Asia LLP (Sweden/Kazakhstan), Baikonur Machinery Group (Kazakhstan), Delkor Limited (United Kingdom), Distrilab LTD (Kazakhstan), FLSmidth Rus (Russia), INNOVATION NORWAY (Norway), Innov-x (USA), Lincoln GmbH (Germany) , LLP Kazmechanomontazh (Kazakhstan), Outotec Minerals Oy (Finland), Zolotoproekt (Russia), Sulzer Pumps Finland (Finland), Mining Machines JSC (Russia), Polevskoi Machine-Building Plant JSC (Russia), Tyazhmash JSC (Russia) and LLP EnergoCentre-Asia LLP (Kazakhstan).

Two months after the 2009 exhibition, booking for next year’s event is already well underway. Aleinikova explains: “MiningWorld Central Asia continues to have a wide appeal internationally, with 34% of the exhibition space for 2010 event already sold. Every year, the show attracts thousands of trade specialists keen to meet companies who are new to the market and are looking for distribution, as well as those who are already well established in Kazakhstan and are looking to strengthen their business in the region.

The next edition of MiningWorld Central Asia will take in Almaty on 15-17 September 2010.

Ends.

Underwater mining: the new frontier

Mining companies are increasingly exploring the depths of the oceans to mine precious stones and metals such as diamonds, gold, copper, lead and zinc. The move to underwater and undersea mining is gaining momentum worldwide and will also be explored during the upcoming MINE-TECH International 2009 conference and exhibition at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg from 2-4 November 2009.

Unlocking underwater resources is a relatively underexplored field in the mining sector. Undersea mining in southern Africa began off the west coast of Namibia with Texan oilman Sam Collins recovering his first diamonds in 1961. The mining of diamonds from the deep water (100 to 200 metres) off South Africa began recently, in 2007, by De Beers. The Underwater Mining Forum takes place on 2 November as part of MINE-TECH International 2009. This one-day workshop will look at the viability of underwater mining, operational and logistical requirements, and will provide a considered assessment of the current state of play, technologies and capabilities, as well as future developments. The Underwater Mining Forum will be hosted by Marine and Mineral Projects, an innovative engineering firm renowned for its technological advances in unlocking underwater resources.

MINE-TECH International 2009 will bring together suppliers to the industry, major and junior mining houses worldwide to explore technology innovations and ensure they are strategically positioned to take advantage of the predicted upswing in the global demand for resources.

Launch of 2nd UEMOA Min-Tel Conference & Showcase

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Following a successful debut in 2006, the Chamber of Commerce of Niger and ITE Group plc announces the launch of the second UEMOA Min-Tel Conference & Showcase to take place on 24-26 February 2009 in the Palais de Congress of Niamey, Niger.

The aim of the conference is to allow participants to gain extensive knowledge about the investment opportunities within the UEMOA region, regional cooperation, the regulatory environment surrounding the telecoms market, oil and gas investments and the recent developments in the mining industry.

Located at the crossroads between North and Sub-Saharan Africa, the UEMOA is a hub of trans-Saharan exchanges. In recent years, the region has undergone progressive economic liberalization and given the private sector a larger role in economic and social development. New investment codes have been established to attract foreign direct investment.

The 2006 event proved a great success, attracting 375 delegates from 36 countries. 47 speakers participated in the conference, including 5 government ministers. Post-show analysis indicates that over 90% of delegates considered the programme good and made useful contacts during the event.

ITE Business Development Director for Africa, Ana Jonic-White, comments on the launch, We were delighted at the success of the 2006 event. UEMOA Min-Tel is highly effective in providing valuable information and interest in the event was even higher than we’d imagined. A lot has happened since the first edition and delegates to the 2009 event will discover just how much the telecoms, mining and petroleum industries have developed, enabling them to identify new opportunities. UEMOA Min-Tel is extremely worthwhile for anyone operating in the West African market or interested in West Africa as a strategic growth market.

UEMOA Min-Tel is supported by the West African Monetary Union, the UEMOA, whose members include Benin, Burkina Faso, C´te Ivoire, Mali, Togo, Guin©e Bissau, Sangal and Niger. It is also supported by the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Niger, the Ministry of Telecommunications of Niger, ARM, NTIC and the Ministry of Commerce.
