- Public and Government Relations Workshop

Feb 28, 2012 - Feb 29, 2012,
Houston, Texas United StatesClick here to Register now!
Those in the business of communicating understand the power of perception. Residents, neighborhood groups, port tenants/users, elected/appointed officials and other stakeholders often perceive port plans, activities and impacts differently than intended by the port. Without the right communications strategy and "best practices,” a port's progress may be impeded or even blocked by misperception and emerging issues. This workshop will feature professionals from a variety of disciplines, including public affairs, community relations, government relations, freight transportation lobbyists and economic development interests.
They will offer presentations, discussions and sharing of "best practices" on how port communicators and community relations personnel can most effectively communicate the value of port property development, investments in transportation infrastructure, and programs geared to attract business, create jobs, improve the environment, increase trade and help ensure the success of port projects. They will also address how port authorities must communicate to government agencies and lawmakers at all levels the benefits ports provide in order to secure maximum funding and favorable policy decisions. This seminar is a PPM® Requirement. - full details

- The 2nd Tight Oil Canada Congress 2012
-
Feb 28, 2012 - Feb 29, 2012,
Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, Alberta Canada T2G OP3There is no doubt that the astoundingly profitable prospect of tight oil exploitation in Canada has caught the attention of almost every leading operator in North America. With investment continually being poured into formation analysis and completions techniques, the question now is how can the industry lower the well cost, speed up the hydraulic fracturing process and increase the deliverability of fracs across the country that has become a global unconventional oil super power.
In the complex geological environment of Canada’s tight oil plays, determining these cost-effective and high recovery completions techniques, including fracture fluid composition, number of frac stages and well spacing, is an on-going challenge that every operator wants to be the first to overcome. Leading E&P operators as well as junior companies across Canada are continually experimenting with completions enhancements; changing variables at every stage and aiming to capture that all important frac recipe that will enable the execution of a quick, low cost high delivery frac job.
Tight Oil Canada 2012 will, for the second time, host industry-renowned thought leaders, executives and technical experts from operators involved in the Bakken, Viking, Cardium and emerging tight oil plays across Canada to share the most up-to-date completions and reserves estimations and trial findings to optimize production processes and achieve maximum deliverability.
Day one will hear operators explain how they have chosen fracture types, fluid types, number of stages and completions technologies that have increased the amount of recoverable oil and maximized fracture growth. They will also discuss how to maintain a stable production flow and avoid early shut-downs by utilizing secondary and tertiary recovery methods.
Day two will examine leading methodologies used for reserves estimation and reservoir evaluation including operators’ real-life results to determine key geological indicators that lead to competitive completions. Detailed case studies will also be provided from tight oil operators that have successfully utilized reservoir simulation, coring and microseismic tools to measure petrophysical and lithological aspects of reservoirs. The conference will end with presentations identifying how pressure transient analysis can optimize the completions process and how advances in drilling have been implemented to increase the speed and reduce the cost of tight oil drilling operations. - full details
- The 2nd Oil Sands Water Management Initiative 2012
-
Feb 28, 2012 - Feb 29, 2012,
Alberta Canada T2G OP3Once considered too expensive as well as too damaging to the land, exploitation of Alberta's oil sands is now worth billions. As E&P companies in Canada look to maximize oil sands production, operators are moving more towards in situ extraction methods to exploit the estimated 1.3 billions barrels of oil. The major challenge now for E&Ps is ensuring that there is enough water to guarantee that in situ production can continue in both the immediate and long term. Water management therefore, is becoming an increasingly vital focus. Major strides are being made to improve the cost-effectiveness of managing water at every stage of in situ production and it is vital that E&P operators improve recyclability by expediting advances in treatment strategies and technologies to ensure the long-term viability of production and accelerate towards a zero liquid discharge future with 100% recyclability.
The Oil Sands Water Management Initiative 2012 endeavors to critically examine the most cost-effective water sourcing strategies and optimal treatment, re-use and disposal technologies for in situ oil sands in Canada. This leading event will also critically evaluate optimal water treatment strategies and technologies for driving down costs, improving water recyclability and increasing the reliability of having enough water for steam generation.
The Oil Sands Water Management Initiative 2012 is the opportunity of the year for VPs Production, VPs Operations, completions managers, water experts, operations professionals and engineers and is, for the 2nd year running, focused specifically on the Canadian oil sands industry. Register now to hear from operators themselves in what strategies and processes they are deploying to cost-effectively ensure they are developing world leading best practices for sourcing, treating, re-using and disposing of water resources. - full details

- The 7th International Conference on Missionary Linguistics 2012
-
Feb 28, 2012 - Mar 2, 2012,
Bremen, Bremen GermanyThis conference aims at exploring missionary linguistics within the wider context of (political and spiritual) colonization. The cognitive appropriation of foreign cultural givens and the transcultural processes such as transference and translation implicated in these processes (based on intercultural encounters and interactions between the European missionaries and the speakers of the various indigenous languages and cultures in the Americas, Asia or Africa can be considered activities of colonizing or only influencing the Other. Within this framework, the learning, recording and studying of the indigenous languages by the missionaries can be described as complex processes of perception of the language and culture (semantics and pragmatics) of the Other and of oneself in confrontation with the Other, processes at the interface between subjective and socially constructed knowledge.
The historical process of recognition in the context of colonial thinking and missionary ideology starts within the basic cognitive experience and operation of an implicit – or even explicit – contrastive (interculturally-based) take on the perceived object: the indigenous language, its variation and normativization, its social function in the new context. The missionary perception here is very specific since the description implies language politics and planning. The formerly socially constructed knowledge about the concept of language, the structure of language, grammatical category and lexical inventories (the linguistic discourse of grammar and lexicon) forms the memory base for the study and record of the given language. The ongoing discourses on language situated in a specific temporally and culturally determined context further determine the study and recording of language and its function in society. On the other side, confrontation with the languages and cultures which are the object of missionary activities, may result in changes of such (pre-)conceptions. - full details

This insightful conference comprises a unique program of case studies and expert-led discussions to provide deeper practical insights which will ensure delegates are well equipped with evidence-based principles in designing leadership strategies at all levels of the workforce.
Driven by the retirement of the baby boomer generation and the demand for talent in developing economies, leadership development has established its importance as a critical factor in ensuring future organisational success. Through various lens we are able to make informed, evidence-based decisions about how to best approach the leadership development process. While leadership continues to be a vital element in achieving successful outcomes within all organisations, to sustain ongoing performance the approach to developing leaders needs to evolve to address a new set of challenges. In an uncertain, dynamic and often volatile business environment, the key differentiating factor for high performing organisations is that they have developed resilient leadership capability. To begin this process, learning and leadership development practitioners need to be very discerning about the tools they are using. The first question that should be considered is: Forget about the hype, what does the evidence tell us?
This insightful Leadership Psychology Conference will provide the opportunity to learn about the science of leadership and how this can transform organisational performance by exploring a range of robust, evidence-based tools to assess, plan and develop performance and resilience of leaders at all levels and show how these strategies lead to tangible benefits to the business bottom line. - full details
