The role of governmental intervention has been put center stage with recent proposals from the White House echoing Depression-era legislation that prevented commercial banks from making risky trades. But do such actions come at a price? What are the unintended consequences of government intervention? And what lessons can we draw from history that will help economies recovering from the present crisis insulate themselves against further downturns?

This program will feature a keynote presentation by Niall Ferguson, Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History, Harvard University and William Ziegler Professor, Harvard Business School. The Financial Times' Washington Bureau Chief, Ed Luce, will chair a distinguished panel discussion with financial experts who will provide an analysis of past and present economic crises and debate the consequences, transitions and potential implications of government actions in capital markets for the future.
