The International commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) is a scientific, technical, professional, voluntary, non-profit and non governmental International Organization dedicated to among others enhance worldwide supply of food and fiber for all people by improving the productivity of irrigated and drained lands through the appropriate management of land, water and environment. ICID started its operations on June 24, 1950 with a Central Office in New Delhi, India. ICID presently has membership of over 100 countries of the world.

The objectives of ICID among others are to stimulate and promote the development and application of the arts, sciences and techniques of engineering, agriculture, economics, ecology and social sciences in managing water and land resources for irrigation, drainage, flood control and river training and for research in a more comprehensive manner adopting up-to-date techniques.

Any recognized country independently administered by a sovereign government and having interest in the activities of the Commission is eligible to become a member. Member countries participate in the activities of the commission through their National Committees constituted by them to further the objectives of the commission in their countries. National Committees are either supported by an agency of government of that country or private committee, financed independently by its members.
