- 6th International Research Forum on Statistical Reasoning, Thinking, and Literacy (SRTL-6)
-
Jul 10, 2009 - Jul 16, 2009,
University of Queensland Brisbane, Queensland AustraliaOver the past decade there has been an increasingly strong call for statistics education to focus more on statistical literacy, reasoning, and thinking. One of the main arguments presented is that traditional approaches to teaching statistics focus on skills, procedures, and computations, which do not lead students to reason or think statistically. The SRTL Forums began in 1999 to foster current and innovative research studies that examine the nature and development of statistical literacy, reasoning, and thinking, and to explore the challenge posed to educators at all levels –– to develop these desired learning goals for students.

- 2nd International Multi-Conference on Engineering and Technological Innovation(IMETI 2009)
-
Jul 10, 2009 - Jul 13, 2009,
Orlando, Florida United StatesEngineering activities are based on the development of new Knowledge (scientia), new 'made things' (techné) and/or new ways of working and doing (praxis). Scientia, Techné and praxis are three important dimensions of a comprehensive conception of Engineering as a whole. Engineering, as Scientia, is mostly developed in academia; as techné is practiced in industry generating technological innovations; and as praxis is carried out in technical and non-technical organizations, supporting managerial activities and technical procedures, via methodical and methodological design and implementation. This is why Engineering provides one of the most solid academic and professional substrata for bridging among Universities, industries and governments.
Publications and conferences related to Engineering are usually oriented to one of its three dimensions. While this is an adequate thing to do when disciplinary focus is sought, it does not represent Engineering as a whole and it misses the very important synergic relationships among the three kinds of engineering activities mentioned above. This is why a group of scholars, professionals and consultants, in the field of engineering, considered the possibility of initiating a publishing process and organizing a conference where presentations will not be reduced to one of the Engineering's dimensions, but to foster the participation of academics, practitioners and managers in the three dimensions of Engineering, in the same conference, or in the same publication, so they can synergistically interact with each other. - full details
- 13th World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics(WMSCI 2009)
-
Jul 10, 2009 - Jul 13, 2009,
Orlando, Florida United StatesWMSCI 2009 is an international forum for scientists and engineers, researchers and consultants, theoreticians and practitioners in the fields of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics. The forum focuses into specific disciplinary research, and also in multi, inter, and trans-disciplinary studies and projects. One of its aims is to relate disciplines, fostering analogical thinking and, hence, producing input to the logical thinking.

- 6th International Symposium on Risk Management and Cyber-Informatics (RMCI 2009)
-
Jul 10, 2009 - Jul 13, 2009,
Orlando, Florida United StatesRisk management has been related, in increasing degree, to Informatics and Cybernetics. Today, almost every organization depends on Information and Communications Technologies. Software and networks supporting organizational everyday activities must be reliable, secure and safe. Flawed or failed software can present severe organizational and business risks that include liability costs, productivity loss, quality decreasing, brand damage, revenue loss, etc. Simultaneously, cyber crimes (cyber frauds, sensible data protection, etc.) and liability in the “electronic workplace” are requiring, with increasing urgency, an adequate risk management. Consequently, Organizational/business risk management is increasingly including informatics and cybernetics in their planning and activities. And vice versa, Informatics and Cybernetics technologies, concepts and theories are increasingly being used in risk management’s research, consulting, studies, projects, training, and activities.
Accordingly, the main purpose of the Symposium on Risk Management and Cyber-Informatics (RMCI 2009) is to bring together researchers, practitioners and consultants from both Risk Management areas and informatics and cybernetics fields and disciplines to presents results of their research, as well as their problems and solutions in Risk Management, the reciprocal applications between both field. - full details
- 5th International Symposium on Management, Engineering and Informatics (MEI 2009)
-
Jul 10, 2009 - Jul 13, 2009,
Orlando, Florida United StatesInformation and Communication Technologies (ICT) generated more synergic loops between engineering and management activities, by means of reciprocal relationships to both of them.
ICT management has been an organizational necessity since the beginning of Computing and Informatics. And, several years later, Management Support Systems and management Informatics began to show its usefulness and importance in managerial activities. - full details
- 3rd International Symposium on Optics, Informatics and Cyber-Technologies(OIC 2009)
-
Jul 10, 2009 - Jul 13, 2009,
Orlando, Florida United StatesOptics, Informatics and Communication/Control Technologies are being increasingly interrelated, especially in Industry and what has been called as the Information Society. Optics and Photonics are being applied more and more to Informatics and Cyber-Technologies (Communication and Control). And, likewise, Computational and Communication/Control Technologies are increasingly being applied to the area of Optics and Photonics. Consequently, it is important and useful, for engineers, scientists, practitioners and managers in these fields to participate in events where Optics, Informatics and Cyber-technologies are discussed and related.
OIC 2009 will be oriented 1) to new ideas, models, devices and applications, related to the role of Optics and Photonics in Industry and Information Society, and 2) to applications of Informatics and Communications/Control Technologies in Optics and Informatics. - full details
- 3rd International Symposium on Bio- and Medical Informatics and Cybernetics (BMIC 2009)
-
Jul 10, 2009 - Jul 13, 2009,
Orlando, Florida United StatesConsequently, the purpose of the International Symposium on Bio- and Medical Informatics and Cybernetics: BMIC 2009 is to bring together scholars, researchers, professionals and practitioners from the fields of biology, medicine, cybernetics and informatics who have been working or are interested in the relationships and cross applications of concepts and technologies among these areas. Submissions of papers/abstracts related to applications of Informatics and Cybernetics in Biology and Medicine are encouraged, as well as applications in the opposite direction, i.e. applications of concepts, theory and experimental results in biology and medicine in the areas of informatics and cybernetics, as it is the case, for example, of Bio-inspired computing.
