Fluid Structure Interaction 2009

Fluid Structure Interaction 2009 is the fifth conference in this successful series, which provides a forum for the presentation of new ideas and the latest work in the specialised field of fluid structure interaction. The principal aim of this conference is to promote international exchange of information and knowledge of fluid structure interaction problems, giving experts from different application fields the opportunity to interact with one another and to provide valuable cross breeding of ideas and techniques.

The conference will encompass a wide range of topics within this area ranging from different types of fluids, such as, wind, current, biofluids and ocean waves to different types of structures, such as, tall buildings, ocean structures, cables, towers, bridges, risers and other types of structures. New research for the advancement of interaction problems will be the main focus of the conference. Papers with new applications to real world problems will be particularly welcome. The basic mathematical formulations of fluid structure interaction and their numerical modelling will also be discussed, as well as their physical modelling.

Special sessions at the Conference will deal with problems where the position of the borders or interphase boundaries have to be determined as part of the solution. The transient cases lead to the so-called moving boundary problems, and the steady state case to the free boundary problems. The sessions will also discuss the special numerical methods applied to these studies such as finite differences, finite elements, finite volumes, boundary elements and other mesh reduction techniques.

International Conference on Adaptive Modeling and Simulation (ADMOS 2009)

Numerical Modeling has reached an amazing level of maturity: scientists and engineers use it as complement to Experimental Modeling and Analysis and as a design tool in an extremely wide variety of problems. However, the user often forgets that answers provided by Numerical Models are affected by errors. The problem of assessing and controlling the quality of the numerical solutions is far of being solved for arbitrary models and it is in fact one of the challenges in computational mechanics for the next future. The adaptive strategies pertain to the techniques providing quality control with a minimum computational effort. The international conference in Adaptive Modeling and Simulation (ADMOS) is a forum to discuss this methods and techniques.

ADMOS is one of the conferences started with the first cohort of the ECCOMAS series of thematic events, in 2003. The first edition was held in Goteborg, Sweden in September 2003. The second edition took place in September 2005, in Barcelona. We came back to Goteborg for the 2007 edition. ADMOS is a medium-size conference (an average of around 80 delegates) with a balanced participation covering both the theoretical aspects of the subject and the engineering applications.

Main target of the Special Session: DATICS'09 is to bring together software/hardware engineering researchers, computer scientists, practitioners and people from industry to exchange theories, ideas, techniques and experiences related to all areas of design, analysis and tools for integrated circuits (e.g. digital, analog and mixed-signal circuits) and systems (e.g. real-time, hybrid and embedded systems). DATICS'09 also focuses on the fields of formal methods, low power design methodologies for integrated circuits and wireless sensor networks (WSNs).
