Medical Device Reimbursement Strategic Seminar
May 18, 2009 - May 19, 2009,
Minneapolis, Minnesota United States

Medical device/diagnostic reimbursement is the second largest barrier to market entrance and FDA approval is not sufficient to ensure reimbursement. Strategy must be devised early in a product’s lifecycle to maximize reimbursement and validate capital investment! Attend this two-day, seminar and learn how to design and implement a comprehensive, streamlined reimbursement strategy. Learn the basics of coding, coverage and payment activities from industry experts and ensure that each piece of the reimbursement puzzle is achieved. After the completion of this interactive course, you will return to your job with a “blueprint” of how to help your company maximize product reimbursement!

After this training course, you will be able to:

• Implement coding strategies to ensure the proper product codes are secured in a timely fashion
• Comply with CMS regulations and policies to ensure coverage is not denied
• Use technology assessments to achieve coverage goals
• Design cost-effective clinical trials that generate the appropriate level of evidence needed for reimbursement decisions
• Compare requirements for private versus public payers to ensure coverage and payment from either
• Adjust payment strategy based on site of service
• Design a sound pricing model for new and existing technology
• Address reimbursement issues throughout the product’s lifecycle to ensure a competitive advantage

NSF/CBMS Regional Conference in the Mathematical Sciences
May 18, 2009 - May 22, 2009,
Texas Christian University Fort Worth, Texas United States

Some of the most exciting current research in geometry and topology has been motivated by problems in mathematical physics in general, and string theory in particular. Physicists are still divided concerning the usefulness of string theory as a ``unified field theory,'' uniting our understanding of all the fundamental forces of nature. However, even if string theory should turn out not to be fully confirmed by experiment, the fascinating and beautiful mathematics it has generated is expected to retain its mathematical value.

The subject of the conference will involve a number of such ``spin-offs'' of string theory into pure mathematics, and the way they connect with other topics in topology and operator algebras that were initially developed for other purposes. The conference will focus largely on the rich interaction between these and other important concepts of current interest. Topics from pure mathematics will include K-theory and twisted K-theory, continuous-trace algebras and the Dixmier-Douady invariant, crossed product C*-algebras and their K-theory, bundles, and homotopy theory. The lecturer will develop parts of these subjects in their own right, as well as discussing their relevance to the very active current research in mathematical physics concerning dualities between various string theories, especially T-duality and S-duality.

1st International Conference on Mobile Lightweight Wireless Systems (MOBILIGHT 2009)
May 18, 2009 - May 20, 2009,
Athens, Greece

Wireless communications are becoming increasingly pervasive, as the number and diffusion of portable wireless-equipped devices is exponentially increasing (ranging from cellular phones to handheld game console, from personal digital assistant and personal navigation devices to still and video cameras). This results into an unprecedented request for lightweight, wireless communication devices with high usability and performance able to support added-value services in a highly mobile environment - following the user everywhere he goes (at work, at home, while travelling, in a classroom, etc.), but also in opening exciting research, development and business opportunities.

This scenario clearly demands significant upgrades to the existing communication paradigm in terms of infrastructure, devices and services to support the ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANY DEVICE philosophy, introducing novel and fast-evolving requirements and expectations on research and development in the field of information and communication technologies, crossing technologies and standards, architectures and devices, and services, and builds challenges to wireless communication technology and ICT in general in terms of reliability and performance, to network architecture in terms of effectiveness and adaptation, to devices in terms of capabilities, portability and enhanced lifetime, to services in terms of usability and seamless access. The core issue is to support wireless users' desire of 24/7 network availability and transparent access to "their own" services.

In this framework and motivated by the interdisciplinary competences needed to build successful lightweight wireless systems, the MOBILIGHT conference will provide an international forum where practitioners and researchers coming from the many areas involved in lightweight wireless systems design and deployment will be able to interact and exchange experiences. In the scenario depicted above, the conference will enable information exchange and cross-fertilization among the different worlds of academy, research centers and industry through the organization of specific and interacting tracks related to: (i) technology, including wireless (WPAN, WLAN, WMAN/cellular) and architectures and design methodologies to support seamless access to the communication facility; (ii) services, in the vision of “always on” requirement; (iii) business models, opportunities and solutions.

5th Annual In-House Counsel Forum on Pharmaceutical Antitrust
May 18, 2009 - May 19, 2009,
Washington, Distr. Columbia United States

Dedicated solely to helping you – both brand name and generic manufacturers - understand what the current status of the law is in the pharmaceutical antitrust arena, this annual premier event will bring you the most up-to-date information on the industry's latest antitrust dilemmas, while also providing you with practical, proactive solutions for navigating this high-scrutiny environment.

At a time when pharmaceutical companies are scrambling to rejuvenate their product lines while still commanding a market share, pharmaceutical counsel find themselves still searching for answers... Will the Supreme Court ever take a case that will bring final resolution to reverse settlement payments or will Congress succeed in resolving this issue first? What effect will recent case law have on pharmaceutical pricing and distribution schemes? These are only a few of the issues that should be on your antitrust radar.

The ability to operate within a set regulatory framework is essential to ensuring business and strategic goals are met. Structuring transactions and deals in a manner that will pass regulatory muster requires a quick resolution of issues raised and an in-depth understanding of what the current status of the law is.

Current pressures on the pharmaceutical industry, combined with lurking exposure to antitrust risk and liability, create an environment ripe for enforcement and litigation. Determining the bounds of anticompetitive behavior has never been more vital. At this conference, an e xpert faculty of government regulators and pharmaceutical antitrust counsel will help you to r ecognize and resolve these clear and present antitrust dangers to ensure that your company does not endure time consuming and expensive repercussions down the road.
