23rd Annual Governor's Hurricane Conference
May 11, 2009 - May 15, 2009,
Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward county Convention Florida United States

The theme for this year’s conference…”Maintaining the Vigil While Preparing for the Inevitable” addresses the challenge Floridians face heading into the 2008 Hurricane Season. Whether it’s having to convince our citizens that eventually the “big one” will again come our way, or competing for funding and other resources reprogrammed for more “current” problems; or dealing with the ever increasing number of new citizens inexperienced in hurricanes, the urgency of preparing for what we know will someday return is as high as ever.

Florida has been handed a welcome respite the last couple of years… and with it, the opportunity to prepare, train, educate and to build and develop our readiness posture. This year’s conference will help provide the framework and tools to ensure this window of opportunity is not wasted. Two and a half days of our conference are devoted to a variety of courses that will train those responsible for maintaining the public’s health and safety during hurricane emergencies. Additionally, over 100 workshops will be offered that provide the latest and greatest on ways to prepare, respond, recover and mitigate the consequences of hurricanes. We hope you find this year’s program helpful in addressing the ever changing hurricane preparedness needs of Florida.

May 11, 2009 - May 14, 2009,
Forschungszentrum Jülich (Jülich Research Center) Jülich Germany

This workshop series, formerly named "International Workshop on Carbon Materials for Fusion Applications", was initiated in 1985 by Forschungszentrum Jülich as a forum for information exchange on carbon based materials for plasma facing applications in nuclear fusion devices. To date, 11 workshops were organized; 8 of them took place in Jülich, one in Stockholm (1995 organized by KTH and FZJ), one in Hohenkammer (2000 organized by IPP, Garching and FZJ). Then it was high time for a change and redefinition of the scope of the symposium. To reflect the requirements of the ITER design and the ongoing evolution in the field it was decided in 2006 to change the name of the workshop from "International Workshop on Carbon Materials for Fusion Applications" to "International Workshop on Plasma-Facing Materials and Components for Fusion Applications". The workshop with the extended scope was held as 11th workshop, PFMC-11 in Greifswald (2006, organized by IPP, Greifswald).
