World Engineering Congress 2009
May 5, 2009 - May 6, 2009,
Bangkok Thailand

Science is about discovering the natural. Engineering is creating the artificial. Theodore Von Karman an aerospace engineer sums up nicely when he said, "Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never was." Recent research has indicated that job opportunities for engineers will continue to grow over the next decade. As companies strive to update production and processes to keep pace with the speed and efficiency of modern technology, the skill sets and knowledge of educated engineers will be in increasing demand.

WORLD ENGINEERING CONGRESS (WEC) offers solution providers a platform to meet your sales, marketing and business development objectives. This congress is the ideal intersection for engineers across industries to discuss and debate pivotal industry issues. This is the arena to showcase your business solutions available for enterprises. Marcus Evans recognises the role of engineers in creating a sustainable future. The engineering profession globally needs to become part of the solution, finding answers with multiple benefits.

Fermentation Methods and Scale-up Strategies, May 2009
May 5, 2009 - May 8, 2009,
Penn State University Park Campus 309 Forest Resources Labortory University Park, Pennsylvania United States 16802

This course emphasizes the theoretical and practical aspects of laboratory microbial fermentation and scale-up. Participants will get hands-on experience setting up and monitoring fermentors, as well as conducting practical experiments that include the effects of medium components on cell density, mixing, aeration, and oxygen mass transfer in fermentation systems, analysis and control of key parameters for product optimization, and computer control of fermentation. The laboratory work will be supported by presentations and discussions on the fundamentals of microbial culture, aseptic techniques, kinetics of fermentation, recombinant microorganisms, scale-up strategies, downstream processing, economic considerations, regulatory aspects, and cGMP.

Approximately 70% of the time is spent in lecture and 30% is in the laboratory.

7th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions (MC-SS 2009)
May 5, 2009 - May 6, 2009,
Andechser Hof Herrsching Germany

The wireless standards 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE), WiMAX, IEEE 802.11a/n, and DxB have in common that they apply the spectrally efficient multi-carrier modulation in order to achieve very high rate data transmission. This trend is expected to continue in the future with the development of the next generation of mobile wireless communications under the IMT-Advanced standardization activities. Additional measures like advanced coding, spreading, and MIMO are combined with multi-carrier transmission to further enhance the efficiency of future systems. In the tradition of the MC-SS, this two-day workshop will be focused on the following topics:

* Evolution and progress within IMT Advanced, LTE, WiMAX, and IEEE 802.11a/n;
* Trends in digital broadcasting systems (DVB-T/T2/H, DAB, DMB, DRM, etc.);
* Multi-carrier access schemes such as OFDMA, MC-CDMA, DFTS-OFDM, IFDMA, OFDM-IDMA;
* Cognitive radio and dynamic spectrum utilization based on multi-carrier transmission;
* OFDM implementation issues;
* Efficient coding, modulation, multiplexing, and detection strategies;
* MIMO, space-time coding, smart antennas in conjunction with multi-carrier systems;
* Synchronization and channel estimation for OFDM systems;
* Navigation/positioning-aided multi-carrier communication.
