PDA 2009 Annual Meeting
Apr 20, 2009 - Apr 24, 2009,
Red Rock Casino and Resort Las Vegas, Nevada United States

PDA is currently seeking scientific abstracts for presentation at the PDA 2009 Annual Meeting, which will explore an area of immense importance to our industry - the current and future impact of computerization and automation. Few could argue that the microchip has and will continue to revolutionize the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry. There is virtually no area of the industry that is not affected.

Have you or someone you know in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical community done something cutting edge or revolutionary in the past year that has involved the use of computerized systems, something that would be of particular interest to the global industry? Such as:

* Solved an unusually difficult technical problem by using computer systems
* Developed an efficiency or quality improvement idea
* Introduced a novel way of using computers and automation to improve process reliability or consistency
* Managed process development data with unique software applications
* Introduced new ways to automate Quality Assurance processes

Abstracts must be noncommercial in nature, describe new developments or work and significantly contribute to the body of knowledge relating to pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality management and technology.

International Cross-Disciplinary Conference on Web Accessibility Madrid 2009
    Apr 20, 2009 - Apr 21, 2009,
    Madrid Spain

Conventional conferences on accessibility tend to be single disciplinary in nature. However, we are concerned that this focus on a single participant group prevents the cross-pollination of ideas, needs, and technologies from other related but separate fields.

The conference is decidedly cross-disciplinary but focused on Scientific Enquiry, Research, Development, and Engineering, and brings together computer scientists, psychologists, accessibility expert and technologists from academia and industry to discuss.

We also encourage the participation of users and other interested parties as an additional balance to the discussion. Our aim is to focus on accessibility by encouraging participation from many disciplines. Views will bridge academia, commerce, and industry and we hope that arguments encompassing a range of beliefs across the design-accessibility spectrum will be presented.

2nd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Hydrology and Ecology (Hydro Eco 2009)
    Apr 20, 2009 - Apr 23, 2009,
University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna, Austria

Many ecological systems owe their existence to physical/chemical properties of groundwater and surface water, and can be damaged if water flow or water properties are changed by anthropogenic or natural processes. The ecological systems may be

    * - the terrestrial ecosystems we see every day, such as the riparian systems along the rivers, and wetlands found in headwaters as well as in low land areas or
    * - the subsurface ecological systems that maintain the groundwater that sustains so many people.

To address the resulting issues, this conference brings together engineers and researchers from engineering and ecological disciplines. The disciplines include, but are not limited to, hydrology, ecology, environmental engineering, biology, chemistry, geochemistry, environmental biogeochemistry, and subsurface microbiology. The unifying theme is the interaction between groundwater and (or) /surface water and ecological systems. A typical example is the hyporheic zone in riparian areas, where the ecological system interacts with water and chemical flows between surface and groundwater.

9th National Forum on Fraud & Abuse in the Sale & Marketing of Drugs
    Apr 20, 2009 - Apr 21, 2009,
New York, New York United States

In a new era of heightened scrutiny, there is one place where you can learn how to reduce the risk of massive fines, litigation costs, misconduct charges, guilty pleas, negative publicity and more. This annual conference will enable you to reshape your compliance programs to reflect recent legislation and changes in enforcement priorities and to develop corporate policies that protect against future fraud claims.

However, implementing these policies is a tremendous challenge. First, companies must stay within the bounds of lawful scientific exchange with respect to off-label communications. Second, new disclosure requirements and enforcement actions at the state level increase the legal burden for manufacturers. Third, distribution of scientific information, educational programs, payments to consultants, and international operations trigger escalating scrutiny by regulators.

In addition, proposed new disclosure requirements for payments to physicians form a potential obstacle in creating a strategy to manage the payments. Further, substantial recent modifications to the federal False Claims Act can impact your strategy with respect to whistleblower suits. And Medicare Part D and new OIG strategic priorities present additional fraud implications for which you must be prepared.

    3rd Annual Market Data Technology
    Apr 20, 2009 - Apr 21, 2009,
New York, New York United States

The demands for lowest latency solutions and rising capacity continue to increase as the use of automated and algorithmic trading increases. It has been estimated that CIO’s spend up to 20% of their budgets on new hardware and software each year. This 3rd Annual conference will bring together industry experts to focus on increasing the robustness of front office market data infrastructure. 3rd Annual Human Capital
    Apr 20, 2009 - Apr 21, 2009,
    Johannesburg, Gauteng South Africa

People (human capital) are the most important assets of any organization and the success of an organization largely depends on the management of its human capital. Yet, in today’s organizations there is a strong focus on controlling the bottom line.

Progressive Human Resource Executives have recognized that using Human Capital Metrics, to support business decisions provides direct links to organizational results in quantitative terms that are readily understood by other executive decision-makers.Organisations are focussing on the human capital mix to ensure the most effective solution is employed in all operations. This has required a move away from just utilising recruitment suppliers to provide ad hoc placement of Perm and Temp staff. Rather, the trend is to look for total human capital solutions providers.

Institutional arrangements and human capital enhancement remain serious concerns in South Africa. We will need to strive to enhance and retain our human resources and recognise that our human capital possesses the skills and knowledge that are important to the well-being of South Africa. We are also faced with the challenge to consolidate our human resources and institutional arrangements to ensure competitiveness and a single point of responsibility. This implies that the institutional arrangements to ensure delivery of much needed infrastructure must have integrity and be beyond reproach. The challenge is to avoid fragmentation and inaction due to a lack of coordination within organisations.
