- 5th International Conference on Testbeds and Research Infrastructures for the Development of Networks and Communities (TridentCom 2009)
-
Apr 6, 2009 - Apr 8, 2009,
Washington, D.C. United StatesTridentCom 2009 represents a landmark in the history of international testbed conferences. With the rapid convergence of networks and applications, changes in related industries, more complex value chains and increased competition, early prototyping and experimentation will become a key means for driving innovation and development of market oriented solutions. In this context, value generation has shifted from network technologies towards applications and content. Thus, the nature and scope of testbeds have changed substantially in recent years from solely network technologies towards complex service delivery infrastructures riding on various networks. In contrast to traditional vendor, operator and technology specific “closed” testbeds, the notion of “open” testbeds has emerged. “Open” in this context means both wide access as a shared resource and extensibility to include on-demand new end systems, network technologies, protocol stacks, and, most importantly, new middleware and service delivery platforms for specific test purposes. To meet this need, major research and development programs have started around the globe, including GENI in the U.S. and FIRE in Europe, to establish large scale experimental facilities. TridentCom 2009 will provide a forum to explore existing and planned testbed concepts, infrastructures, and tools to address the research and business challenges in a world of global convergence.

- 8th International Conference on Methods and Applications of Radioanalytical Chemistry (MARC VIII)
-
Apr 6, 2009 - Apr 10, 2009,
King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel Kailua-Kona, Hawaii United StatesThe conference will continue the tradition set by the seven previous MARC conferences by focussing on emerging developments in radioanalytical chemistry and radiochemistry, with particular emphasis on new applications.
The conference includes both oral and poster sessions grouped around specific topics. Poster sessions are organized around specific themes, similar, or in addition, to those included in the oral sessions. Poster papers in these topics will be grouped together which will permit informal group discussions of specific papers. Continuing the policy of previous MARC conferences, papers presented at the conference will be published in a peer-reviewed journal, probably in the serial volumes of the Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry.
The objective of the MARC conferences is to promote a broad interchange of information on radioanalytical chemistry among scientists from participating countries. Participants from more than 35 countries are expected to attend MARC VIII and give papers. The central geographic location of Hawaii encourages participation and attendance of scientists from Pacific Rim countries as well as providing European scientists with easy accessibility from major US airports. The isolated nature of Kailua-Kona on the Island of Hawaii provides an excellent atmosphere for informal discussions and working groups among the anticipated 250-300 attending scientists and also provides excellent recreational facilities for participants and guests. - full details

- Information Assurance - Latest Requirements and Methods, Washing, April 2009
-
Apr 6, 2009 - Apr 7, 2009,
Washington, Distr. Columbia United StatesCovertly and overtly, government and private networks are under attack every hour of every day. This continuous assault on the nation's information networks illustrates the need for effective Information Assurance (IA). An attacker needs only one vulnerability to successfully penetrate a system; a defender requires a 100% comprehensive solution. The DoD has made Information Assurance a major element of the JCIDS process and replaced the venerable DITSCAP with the Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP). Are you developing secure products in compliance with DoD’s latest IA requirements? The best Information Assurance requires a systematic, technical, holistic, architectural approach, and this seminar will demonstrate how such an approach to IA can ensure success.
This seminar provides you with the latest tools and techniques for designing and implementing IA Architectures. You will receive the leading-edge techniques for developing and implementing Security Architectures and securing systems, networks and platforms. Additionally, you will receive the latest information on DoD?s IA policy and an update on the Defense-wide
Information Assurance Program (DIAP), as well as the latest technology trends in IA. - full details

- 2nd Annual Pre-Clinical/ Clinical Development of Therapeutic Antibodies
-
Apr 6, 2009 - Apr 7, 2009,
The Westin Copley Place Boston, Massachusetts United StatesMonoclonal antibodies now represent the majority of biologics being developed with greater than 150 compounds (30 to 50% of all biologics in development) in company sponsored clinical trials. Unfortunately, there has been a higher attrition rate for monoclonal antibodies as compared to other biologics. While early studies in the pre-clinical setting have been encouraging, the predictability and confirmation of these same efficacy findings in humans has been difficult. The reason for this is multi-factorial and may include; 1) target antigen properties, 2) antibody design, 3) PK and PD properties, 4) limited species cross reactivity (limited availability of suitable animal models), 5) appropriate translation of pre-clinical data to pick FIH dose and 6) accurate identification of patients who could benefit from target therapy. This conference will provide a forum to review strategies and technologies that are being used to increase the probability of success in the development of therapeutic antibodies.

- 5th Annual Difficult to Express Proteins
-
Apr 6, 2009 - Apr 7, 2009,
The Westin Copley Place Boston, Massachusetts United StatesMany of the most highly sought-after proteins for therapeutics, characterization and diagnostics prove some of the most difficult to express. Problems with structure, folding/re-folding, glycosylation, immunogenicity, affinity, solubility, and activity continue to plague researchers attempting to express these proteins. This conference will present strategies for improving the expression of these “finicky” proteins, as well as providing researchers with opportunities to network with groups that are successfully overcoming these challenges.

- CHI's The Impact of Outsourcing Chemistry at the Project Level
-
Apr 6, 2009 - Apr 7, 2009,
Hilton San Diego Resort San Diego, California United StatesAcross much of the pharmaceutical industry, steps have been taken to outsource chemical synthesis efforts and increasingly medicinal chemistry projects are moving to the outside. Biotech companies are in many cases exclusively dependant on chemistry being done outside their organizations. Executive strategies are being tested across larger and smaller organizations – how much to outsource and to whom, how to chose geographies and above all how to measure ROI.
This conference will address the impact of outsourcing on discovery chemistry at the bench or project level. How does the chemist on both sides of this arrangement make this work on a daily basis, how are projects managed, how do the team leads on either side communicate effectively to get the job done, what novel strategies and chemistry are arising as a result of these partnerships and how is this impacting discovery in general.
If you work in discovery chemistry outsourcing and have novel sourcing strategy or chemistry to share, please submit a proposal to be considered for a speaking opportunity on this agenda. - full details
- CHI's 2nd Annual HCV Drug Discovery
-
Apr 6, 2009 - Apr 7, 2009,
Hilton San Diego Resort San Diego, California United StatesThe outlook for new potential therapies for hepatitis C virus (HCV) is promising. There are at least seven protease inhibitors of hepatitis C virus in late-stage clinical trials, and they represent just one class of the new specifically targeted antiviral therapies for hepatitis C virus (STAT-C) in development. To discover therapies effective for the large subpopulation of HCV patients who do not respond to the only approved regimen of ribavirin and interferon, other viral and host cell molecules or processes are being targeted as well.
