102nd Meeting of the Organization of American Historians
Mar 26, 2009 - Mar 29, 2009,
Seattle Sheraton Hotel, Washington State Convention Centre, Seattle, Washington United States

With the theme of "History Without Boundaries," the 2009 Organization of American Historians program committee seeks an eclectic program that will highlight the creative use of history in research, education, the media, and public presentations. We seek proposals reflecting the broad chronological and subject diversity of American history, including race, gender, disabilities, social, cultural, political, diplomatic, and military studies, by those teaching at four year colleges, universities, community colleges, and secondary schools, public historians, and independent scholars. Meeting on the West coast, the program should feature sessions on the history of the West and the borderlands, rural life, Native Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Asian Americans, and issues of immigration and environmental policy. We encourage international participation, and sessions that emphasize oral history, museums, archives, and broadcast and electronic media.

Optimizing the Role of the Physician Advisor 2009
Mar 26, 2009 - Mar 27, 2009,
United States

If a hospital can improve its bottom line by $750,000 a year simply by decreasing patient length of stay by only 2 hours, and most institutions continue to hemorrhage 3% to 5% of net revenue as a result of reimbursement denials, how can you afford not to fix the problems?

Leading hospitals are learning that there are relatively painless alternatives to the ongoing struggle with performance inefficiency, low revenue, and inadequate reimbursement rates. Physician Advisors, when leveraged appropriately, improve overall hospital performance and minimize medical and financial risks. They can improve medical management by evaluating the efficiency of medical services rendered with respect to the revenue-cycle continuum. If leveraged effectively and supported by administration and staff, their multifaceted role can do so much more.

Physician Advisors used judiciously can systematically reduce length of stay by overcoming discharge barriers, implement optimal quality and patient safety initiatives, concurrently and retrospectively appeal denials, and educate their peers to increase collaboration and cooperation.
