Orebody Modelling and Strategic Mine Planning 2009
Mar 16, 2009 - Mar 17, 2009,
Hyatt Regency Perth Perth, Western Australia Australia

Orebody Modelling and Strategic Mine Planning is a two-day symposium highlighting the latest advances, technologies, practices and concerns in the field. Since the outstanding success of the last conference in 2004, the world has changed in very important ways. Firstly, the world has begun to respond to predictions of climate change, with CO2 trading, capping and taxation systems emerging worldwide. The indication is that these programs will continue to grow. Secondly, the world has also seen a significant increase in the demand and production for most commodities but the growth in Reserve Bases has not kept pace. Both climate change and the mismatch between demand and Reserve Base growth add new dimensions of complexity and uncertainly to the already challenging domains of Orebody Modelling and Strategic Mine Planning.

CHI's Comprehending Copy Number Variation
Mar 16, 2009 - Mar 17, 2009,
Hilton San Diego Resort San Diego, California United States

All agree that copy number variation (CNV) contributes substantially to human genetic diversity. But to what extent? The resulting applications of newly developed whole-genome scanning technologies have catalyzed the appreciation of CNV in the genetic community. The range of these promising new technologies will, for the first time, allow scanning of the entire human genome for CNV in a single experiment. As these genome-wide scanning techniques become more widely used in diagnostic laboratories, the major challenge is how to accurately interpret which submicroscopic genomic imbalances are pathogenic in nature and which are benign. Cambridge Healthtech Institute’s Inaugural Comprehending Copy Number Variation addresses:

• technologies to characterize functionally-relevant CNVs at a high resolution
• incorporating these variants within association studies for complex diseases
• determining critical genes and pathways responsible for the development and progression of a particular disease
• developing databases to facilitate integration with existing genetic studies
• clinical diagnostics

High Throughput Screening for Biological Systems
Mar 16, 2009 - Mar 17, 2009,
London, England, United Kingdom

The aim of this conference is to provide high-level investigation of high throughput systems for those dedicated to using primary or stem cell sources as biologically relevant models. Whether the aim is drug target discovery, toxicology testing, or histological analysis, this event will address advances in technology and strategic approaches to acheive maximum results.
With the right approach, advances in automation and cell culture techniques can be utilized to access and vizualize biological events. This is a “purpose-built” event to convey information that is specific and valuable to those engaged in automated cell screening. Emphasis on imaging, including new ways to identify cellular activity, data analysis and applications will provide researchers the tools they need to progress.
The majority of techniques currently employed to interrogate a biomolecular interaction require some type of radio- or enzymatic- or fluorescent-labelling to report the binding event. However, there is an increasing awareness of novel techniques that do not require labelling of the ligand or the receptor, and that allow virtually any complex to be screened with minimal assay development. Speakers will provide proof-of-concept studies for these novel technologies.

4th Annual Corporate Treasury & Cash Management
Mar 16, 2009 - Mar 17, 2009,
Singapore

Managing cash effectively in Asia is one of the major challenges faced by corporate treasurers. Regulatory constraints, the present volatility in the economy, difficulties in raising funds, ensuring liquidity and risk management, budgetary constraints, lack of expertise and globalisation are cited as the key challenges faced in treasury and cash management. Treasurer’s roles are intensifying from just overlooking the capital of the company to consulting and partnering with the company to maximise the return of the company and ensuring sufficient cash to run daily operations.

As businesses have gone global, treasurers are required to make the most of limited resources. Treasurers need knowledge and ability to perform in different currencies, countries and entities in more time zones and regulatory regimes. Higher global interest rates have also pushed up the cost of external funding, pressuring treasurers to optimise internal sources of funds.

NextGen Power
Mar 16, 2009 - Mar 18, 2009,
Beijing China

The power generation sector is recently going through a period of metamorphosis. Rising prices of oil, high energy prices, along with the twin challenges of concentrated energy supplies and climate change have put energy security at the top of all countries’ agendas. Efforts to move away from traditional fossil fuels towards greater diversity and sustainability have accelerated. One has to take relevant measures to reconcile economic and social objectives with environmental imperatives – specifically those posed by climate change. Over the last ten years, world primary energy demand has risen by over 20% and this upward trend is set to continue. Fossil fuels will continue to dominate energy consumption; still meeting around 80% of energy needs in 2030 (of which coal is 25% of global energy demand).

It is essential to address the gap between what is happening and what needs to be done in order to build a clean, clever and competitive energy future and how to bridge this gap. A more sustainable energy future is within our reach and technology is the key. Increased energy efficiency, CO2 capture and storage, renewables, and nuclear power will play a significant role. Countries must act now if they are to unlock the potential of current and emerging technologies and reduce the dependency on fossil fuels with its consequent effects on energy security and the environment. This timely conference brings together global experts and opinion leaders to discuss the pertinent issues in turning these pursuits to reality and to bring forth some of the future trends affecting the power generation industry. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet key industry players and gain insights from industry experts.

Corporate Communications & Media Relations
Mar 16, 2009 - Mar 17, 2009,
Johannesburg, Gauteng South Africa

Communication is of critical importance to the success of organisations and the 2010 world cup has placed South Africa and Africa at large in the spotlight. While the world is watching, it will be the PR, media and communication practitioners who have centre stage and will be in charge for promoting a positive image for their organisations in general and the continent as a whole.

Building from the successful Corporate Communications event in 2008, this conference will focus on current concerns in corporate communication such as CEO involvement, forecasting to promote crisis preparedness and reputation management, as well as address advancements in this field including using the web and social media to its full advantage, building strong media partnerships, the pros and cons of outsourcing your PR function and appropriately communicating within multicultural and translingual environments as motivated by globalisation.

The financial value of excellent communication strategies cannot be undervalued and communications is the only vehicle that allows all employees to understand the vision and direction of a company. A small mistake or miscommunication that is badly managed can seriously damage a company and its reputation beyond repair and may even lead to its closure.

This high level forum will provide companies with the blueprint for designing winning communication strategies to secure and retain confidence with their key target audiences and ensure professionals in this field remain abreast of advancing global trends.
