- Oxidative Stress And Disease 2009
-
Mar 8, 2009 - Mar 13, 2009,
Il Ciocco Hotel and Resort Lucca, Barga ItalyThe Oxygen Paradox tells us that oxygen is both necessary for and dangerous to, all aerobic organisms. The oxidative stress that results from oxygen- and nitrogen-based oxidants is thought to be important in ageing, and in the etiology or progression, of many age-related diseases. This conference will focus on potential mechanisms by which oxidative stress modulates age-related degenerative diseases. Sessions will include the following: re-examining the free radical theory of ageing, redox signaling, the role of iron in age-related neurodegenerative diseases, inflammation and disease, mechanisms of SOD1-linked ALS, oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in diabetes, oxylipins and bioactive lipids in disease, protein oxidation and degradation in age related disease, and the role of oxidative stress in age-related pathobiology of skeletal muscle. The program includes invited lectures by many of the leading scientists in the fields of free radical biology and medicine, and gerontology. Several short talks will also be selected from submitted abstracts, in order to welcome new researchers into the field. New and/or young investigators are especially encouraged to attend the conference, and to submit abstracts for either poster or oral presentation. Highlights of the meeting will include both invited and selected plenary talks, a debate on the veracity of the free radical theory of ageing and a keynote lecture by Bruce Ames on his work in oxidative stress and age-related disease.

- Vascular Cell Biology 2009
-
Mar 8, 2009 - Mar 13, 2009,
Four Points Sheraton / Holiday Inn Express Ventura, California United StatesThe Gordon Vascular Biology conferences have been inaugurated 21 years ago and have become a highly anticipated event in the field. The study of vascular biology continues to proceed at a remarkable pace. Many new molecules relevant to vascular development and angiogenesis have been discovered in the last 2 years. Importantly, advances in vascular biology have contributed to the development of many new therapies and preventive strategies.
The 2009 conference will cover a variety of traditional as well as novel vascular biology topics including development of the vascular system, cell-cell and cell-matrix communications, proteoglycans and the vasculature, intracellular signaling, vascular permeability and maintenance, and hypoxia and metabolic regulation. The meeting will bring together speakers, discussants and participants that represent a wide range of disciplines, approaches and systems. The small size of the conference and the informal atmosphere will facilitate discussion and interactions. The theme of the conference makes it highly relevant to scientists working in various disciplines such as developmental, cell and molecular biology, genetics, cell signaling, and immunology among others, as well physicians and scientists seeking better understanding and treatment of various disease processes including cancer, cardiovascular disease and inflammation. - full details
- Inorganic Reaction Mechanisms
-
Mar 8, 2009 - Mar 13, 2009,
Hotel Galvez Galveston, Texas United StatesChemical phenomena of intense current interest - catalysis, atmospheric chemistry, the creation of new materials, small molecule activation, driving chemical reactions with renewable energy sources, green chemical processes, biological production of chemicals, etc. - intrinsically involve reactions of elements from throughout the periodic table. This conference focuses on the mechanisms of these reactions and the techniques that are used for elucidation of reaction mechanisms. Our goal is to bring together a diverse group of participants - a worldwide collection of researchers representing academics, national laboratories, and industry - to share broad-based approaches - kinetics, spectroscopy, isotopic effects, and computations - to understanding of how reactions occur in many contexts - catalysis, coordination chemistry, main group reaction, atomospheric, biological, electrochemical, fuels, solar conversion, and organic. Participants will receive exposure to a wide range of techniques used to study reaction mechanisms of contemporary interest.
The program has nine open slots for short poster talks. Everybody is welcome to apply for one of these by simply dropping a message to the Chair. The speakers will be selected by a committee shortly before the beginning of the conference. It is anticipated that the Chair will be able to provide financial aid toward travel expenses of those selected to speak. - full details

Mar 8, 2009 - Mar 12, 2009,
Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach, Honolulu, Hawaii United StatesThe focus of this conference track is on the application of both novel and well-known techniques to the embedded systems development. Particular attention is paid to solutions that require expertise in different fields (e.g. computer architecture, OS, compilers, security, software engineering, simulation).
The track will benefit also from direct experiences in the employment of embedded devices in “unconventional” application areas, so to show up new challenges in the system design/development process.
In this setting, researchers and practitioners from academia and industry will get a chance to keep in touch with problems, open issues and future directions in the field of development of dedicated applications for embedded systems. - full details
