- Pharma Packaging and Labelling USA
-
Feb 18, 2009 - Feb 19, 2009,
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania United StatesPharmaceutical packaging and labeling are becoming of increasing importance to manufacturers in North America. Indeed, according to a recent study, US demand for drug packaging will grow seven percent yearly through to 2010 and managing packaging and labeling strategies is becoming a growing challenge across the whole industry.
Not only that, with security a paramount issue and fraudsters finding new ways to counterfeit drugs, packaging and labeling play a significant role in reducing the ease in which this can be done. Pharma and biotech manufacturers are complying with the new ePedigree regulations, implementing RFID, track and trace systems, and product serialization to combat this.
From innovation in packaging materials, new technology, and anti-counterfeiting methods to compliant packaging and senior friendly/child resistant designs, this event will cover the critical issues facing the industry today.
This is an educational two day conference tailored to maximize the sharing of knowledge and expertise and to promote networking for packaging and labeling professionals in the pharmaceutical industry. - full details

- Effective Management of Legal Risk & Services: The In-house Lawyers role & contribution
-
Feb 18, 2009 - Feb 19, 2009,
Dubai Hotel, Dubai, United Arab EmiratesAn in-house legal function cannot, and never should, have enough resource to handle all the legal needs of an organisation. The pressures onin-house departments are increasing as a result of various factors:
- Business people expecting the in-house lawyers to absorb more and more activity which they do not feel inclined or equipped to handle.
- The need to keep legal spend under tight control.
-More at stake with increased regulation and greater vigilance on the part of those affected by the organisation's activities.
- It is vital that business managers, the in-house function and the external advisers agree what their respective roles should be in themanagement of legal risk.
'We need more legal staff ' is not a message most business managers will be pleased to hear, so department heads need to develop an in-house team which has the right focus, motivation and capabilities required. Experienced senior lawyers often view management as an unwelcome distraction from dealing with transactions or situations which merit their attention. However a team will rarely perform at a superior level without leadership effort.

- Asia-Pacific Economic and Business History Conference
-
Feb 18, 2009 - Feb 20, 2009,
Gakushuin University, Tokyo JapanPapers and proposals for sessions are invited for the 2009 APEBH conference. The conference theme is ‘Asia-Pacific in International Economy and Business’, around which the conference programme committee expects to organise a number of sessions. As at past conferences, the 2009 APEBH programme committee welcomes contributions on other topics in economic, social, and business history. Early career researchers are encouraged to participate. Researchers across a range of disciplines are warmly welcomed, including economists and historians of economic thought, business, society and management, as well as archivists. The conference organisers are particularly interested in attracting papers that examine developments within the Asia-Pacific region (broadly defined) and/or papers that provide an international comparative perspective.
The conference theme provides ample opportunities to explore and discuss historical research that has implications for ongoing discussion on current topical issues. Arguably, current discussions about processes of economic and business integration across East Asia and Australasia tend to suggest that this is a recent phenomenon. Such discussions are often insufficiently informed by historical studies, which suggest that economic integration across the Asia-Pacific region and in parts of the region is actually a recurrence of integration tendencies that flourished before World War II. In many cases these tendencies stalled in the aftermath of World War II, when many countries opted to pursue more inward-looking development paths, until recent decades when countries embraced more outward-looking paths of development. - full details
