2nd Annual Conference on Electronic Laboratory Notebooks
Jan 28, 2009 - Jan 29, 2009,
Copthorne Tara Hotel, London, England, United Kingdom

Nowadays, the traditional paper and pen systems for logging data are being replaced by ELNs, saving researchers’ time and increase their efficiency. ELNs can understand data, gather it and store it on a host server facilitating effective knowledge sharing within an organisation. They have been successfully used by computational chemists, but now biologists are adapting to using them as well. However, their needs are very different to those of chemists and new programmes need to be developed to manage this change. This transition also calls into question compliance, regulations and an understanding of how these systems can be integrated with others.

SMi’s 2nd annual conference on Electronic Laboratory Notebooks brings together some of the most qualified speakers in the industry, giving their experiences on their own implementation of ELNs. You will also hear about the latest advances in this area and the future of ELNs. This is a must attend event for all those that already work with ELNs and everyone that is looking to implement them.

E-Waste Management
Jan 28, 2009 - Jan 29, 2009,
Marriott Bloor Yorkville Hotel Toronto, Ontario Canada

E-waste legislation across Canada is increasing the cost of creating and discarding electronics as usual. Will you be paying the extra price, or capitalizing on the opportunity
of developing a more sustainable life-cycle?

The long-term goal of Extended Producer Responsibility programs is to encourage the creation of more environmentally friendly products, by choosing and utilizing all resources more effectively from the design stage right through to development, distribution, use, and ultimately, disposal.

With this aim, Ontario is rolling out its Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Program in the spring of 2009, and will join the likes of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia who have already implemented similar programs. The fee it levies will cover the cost of the recycling program; however, beyond that, how will its implementation influence manufacturers, recyclers, and consumers?

6th National Conference on Pharma/Biotech IP Due Diligence
Jan 28, 2009 - Jan 29, 2009,
Marriott East Side New York, New York United States

Whether you are a larger company conducting the diligence or a target being examined, you need to attend this annual event to ensure the value of the IP with a thorough and effective IP due diligence review.

IP due diligence is now a central concern and struggle for companies in life science-related industries, due to the substantial growth of mergers and acquisitions, spin-outs, and divestitures, as well as the evolving role of licensing and collaborative arrangements. If the due diligence is not properly conducted, you run the risk of loss of reputation, loss of profits, or even ruin.

Furthermore, since the intellectual property at issue can make or break a deal, it is imperative that you are aware of all of the current changes to patent practices. Proposed legislation, recent case law and proposed USPTO Rules complicate the patent landscape even further.

This is the ONLY proven event where an experienced faculty of leading IP practitioners and in-house patent and IP counsel will not only give you the most up-to-date information about a constantly evolving patent landscape, but will show you how to incorporate these changes into your diligence review to accurately analyze the value of the IP. You will also learn best practices from representatives of leading companies who have “been there” and managed successful and cost-effective IP diligence review, including practical advice and the tools you need to develop flexible checklists, structure the review based on the type of deal, evaluate the patent portfolio, prepare for the review and much more.
