6th GCC and Global Financial Markets Summit
Dec 15, 2008 - Dec 17, 2008,
Burj Al Arab Dubai United Arab Emirates

High inflation rates and fluctuations in short term interest rates and in the economy all contribute to the current volatility in Global Markets. And, while the financial community views the GCC as an emerging financial hub with a lot of promising commercial opportunities for GCC citizens and foreign investors as well, spikes in share prices in regional markets, which are stereotypically followed by plunges, leave investors continuously wondering “Is the GCC stock market really on the rise or is it heading for a fall?”

The 6th GCC and Global Financial Markets Summit, which aims to address major issues like financial concentration and market stability and trends, will shed light on stock exchange volatilities and the risks and opportunities in the GCC stock markets, as well as their correlation to global markets. It will also cover best practices to combat possible threats and abuse and discuss the need to create more integrated markets and faster information linkages between the regulatory authorities and investors.

3rd International Workshop on Semantic Media Adaptation and Personalization
Dec 15, 2008 - Dec 16, 2008,
Olympik Hotel, Prague, Czech Republic

The Semantic Media Adaptation and Personalization (SMAP) Initiative was founded during the summer of 2006 in an effort to bring together researchers and practitioners working in this area, in order to discuss the state of the art, recent advances and future perspectives for semantic media adaptation. The 1st SMAP meeting, named 1st International Workshop on Semantic Media Adaptation and Personalization (SMAP 2006) held in December 2006 outgrew all initial expectations and it had to be extended from a one-day to a two-day event. The 2nd International Workshop on Semantic Media Adaptation and Personalization (SMAP 2007), saw a similar growth which resulted in the event having to be held over three days, in addition to hosting a separate special session and a doctoral consortium. As a result of the overwhelming and continuing interest and support for the first two SMAP events, the SMAP initiative founders and chairs (the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Indianapolis and Brunel University) have decided to hold this annually as a focused meeting of a society of researchers and practitioners.
