- Gartner Enterprise Architecture Summit 2008 - Las Vegas
-
Dec 10, 2008 - Dec 12, 2008,
Ceasars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada United StatesEnterprise Architecture plays a key role in an organization's competitive advantage - but it's a new game, with new rules. It needs to be more integrated with the business. It needs to be more flexible. It needs to incorporate data management, business processes, mobility, security, compliance, among its many layers.
What does this mean for Enterprise Architects?
From the complexities of the architecture itself to the abundance of technological change that transpires, today's architect must ready themselves for a new era of development. They are at the very intersection of business and IT - the point of alignment. They must look beyond the technical and be able to map and communicate their business strategy, effectively bringing technology to the boardroom. - full details

- Eudravigilance - Electronic Reporting of ICSRs in the EEA (London)
-
Dec 10, 2008 - Dec 12, 2008,
EMEA, London, England, United KingdomEudraVigilance is the European data-processing network and management system, established at the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) to support the electronic exchange, management, and scientific evaluation of Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs) related to all medicinal products authorised in the European Economic Area (EEA). EudraVigilance also incorporates data analysis facilities and is therefore regarded as one of the main pillars of the European Risk Management Strategy, which aims to strengthen the conduct of pharmacovigilance in Europe.
Community legislation is in place to ensure that all stakeholders, including National Competent Authorities and pharmaceutical companies in the EEA collect, collate and exchange adverse drug reactions.
The implementation of the electronic transmission of ICSRs, based on the results of the International Conference on Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for the Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH), is currently a top priority in the area of pharmacovigilance at Community level to make data exchange and management more efficient.
EVWEB, the Internet-based reporting tool developed at the EMEA, was released in 2004 to allow Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) that hold marketing authorisations in the EEA, to report electronically adverse reactions, in full compliance with the internationally agreed standards, to the EMEA and National Competent Authorities. Further, EVWEB helps the regulators in the Community to manage the constantly increasing volume of adverse reaction reports more efficiently. In addition, EVWEB was extended to integrate the new reporting requirements of suspected serious unexpected adverse reactions (SUSARs) as a result of the EU Directive on Clinical Trials.

- SANS Cyber Defense Initiative 2008
-
Dec 10, 2008 - Dec 16, 2008,
2660 Woodley Road, NW Washington, Distr. Columbia United States 20008SANS is returning to the nation's capital for the SANS Cyber Defense Initiative 2008 at a particularly important time for the careers of security professionals. This is the year senior government leaders changed the rules. Under the direction of the Director of National Intelligence, intelligence and law enforcement agencies started unlocking evidence of massive penetrations of government and commercial organizations. The result is a massive shift away from security people who can write reports to those who can find the flaws and attacks and actually secure systems. It is a wrenching change, but one long overdue; and SANS is the one education organization known for developing those skills now most in need.
In this uncertain economy, employers particularly value workers that can actually implement security. If you only have "soft skills", take this opportunity to begin making the change to hard skills. Pick a course and come to SANS Cyber Defense Initiative. You'll get the kind of hands-on, immersion training that you can put to work immediately.
Pick from these and many other extraordinary immersion programs:
• SEC560: Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking (This course has sold out at many of our events this year!)
• SEC401: SANS Security Essentials
• SEC504: Hacker Techniques, Exploits and Incident Handling
• SEC508: Computer Forensics, Investigation, and Response
• SEC501: Advanced Security Essentials ++ - GIAC Enclave Defender
• MGT512: SANS Security Leadership Essentials for Managers
• AUD507: Auditing Networks, Perimeters & Systems
• SEC538: Web Application Penetration Testing Fundamentals
• SEC542: Web Application Penetration Testing In-Depth

- Engineering Principles in Biological Systems
-
Dec 10, 2008 - Dec 13, 2008,
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Cold Spring Harbor, New York United StatesThere are two key ideas behind this meeting: that theoretical engineering principles that have been developed in the context of human engineered systems are useful in understanding biological function, and that these principles apply across scales, from the cellular to the organism level. In keeping with these ideas, we hope to attract researchers in fields ranging from bacterial systems biology to neural systems, with shared interest in engineering principles. Sessions will be broken up according to broad areas of engineering, and there will also be a session on evolution.
The conference is intended to foster cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas and expertise between engineers, mathematicians and biologists interested in the analysis of diverse biological systems through the application of engineering principles. While a number of speakers have been invited, please note that the majority of oral presentations will be drawn from openly submitted abstracts. - full details

- 1st Global Summit On Sustainable Development and Biodiversity 2008 (Gloss 2008)
-
Dec 10, 2008 - Dec 12, 2008,
Hotel Babylon International, Raipur, Chhattisgarh IndiaGlobal Warming and environmental threats have challenged the basic human survival on this earth. The population explosion coupled with evil effects of globalisation and irreparable damages of environment have damaged the world economic order. The sea level tends to rise by 20 feet. In India, not less than 20% of coastal areas have been exposed to the frequent threats by the rising sea. It is estimated that not less than a million species would be vanished from the earth by 2050. Although a good number of International Conventions have been organized to influence formulation of policy at national level for bringing balance between social well-being and eco system through Sustainable Development approach, a very little achievement has been made in this direction. The Sustainable Development is a major concern for Government, Civil society organizations and corporate world these days. The issues of Sustainable Development are numerous and complex. There is a wide gap between macro level policy and micro level issues and needs. A very little attempt has been made to understand the vision of the stakeholders and assess the time-tested technologies, values and mechanisms of conserving, regenerating and preserving the ecosystem. The Global Summit seeks to examine the ways in which the stakeholders and civil society organizations can participate in planning process with the planners and experts and how their indigenous time tested mechanism for ensuring equilibrium between social well being and eco health would be renewed at macro scale.
The Global Summit aims at promotion of base for public private partnership towards meeting common challenges of globalisation and future of the human being. - full details
