    2008 International Low Impact Development Conference

    A number of national and regional Low Impact Development (LID) Conferences have been held in the United States, including the September 2004 conference hosted by the University of Maryland, College Park, and most recently, the March 2007 conference hosted by North Carolina State University in Wilmington, NC. The 2008 International LID Conference will highlight new and continuing work including research, developments, and community adoption of LID throughout the United States and other countries.
    CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

    * To continue to promote the use of LID as an effective alternative for traditional stormwater management, as well as to examine successful watershed management practices related to stream restoration;

    * To inform practitioners throughout the U.S. and other countries on how to anticipate and address impediments for implementation of these techniques to accelerate change in the practice of stormwater management, including an information exchange to refine design processes, review procedures and construction standards related to LID technologies;

Talks and posters will initiate discussions that should lead to a synthesis paper on the state-of-the-art knowledge on this topic. Actions to carry out in the next 5 years should emerge from these discussions. These actions will include coordinated modelling experiments as well as synthesis of surface data at the regional to global scales. At the end of the workshop will set up a web site with the main papers, overheads, and reports on discussions to help the dissemination of the knowledge gained, and to help the writing up of the synthesis paper.
