- Adaptive Clinical Trial Designs
-
Oct 23, 2008 - Oct 24, 2008,
Hilton Washington Hotel, Washington, Distr. Columbia United StatesScope of conference – 2007 was a big year for both the implementation and recognition of the value of adaptive trial designs in drug development. This was evidenced by:
* Large pharmaceutical organizations implementing and reporting time and cost savings associated with the use of adaptive trial designs
* EMEA’s finalization and publication of their “Reflection Paper on Methodological Issues in Confirmatory Clinical Trials Planned with Adaptive Design” (CHMP/EWP/2459/02) last October
* EMEA/EFPIA workshop on adaptive designs in confirmatory clinical trials conducted in Dec. 2007
While the evidence supports that adaptive trial designs have improved efficiency in drug development and regulators are receptive to their use; adoption of these designs within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry is slow. Why is change so slow to come; what are the barriers? This conference will focus on overcoming the barriers for the implementation of adaptive trial designs in your organization. The program will include:
* Case examples from ongoing trials which provide evidence that adaptive trial designs work
* Review of the recently released EMEA reflection paper and FDA guidelines (if available)
* Barriers to the implementation of adaptive trial designs and how to overcome them
o IT/Data management issues
o Drug supply issues
o Internal mind-set within your organization
* An update from the PhRMA Adaptive Design Working Group on the number and types of adaptive trial designs that have been implemented
* Discussion of seamless phase II/III adaptive trial designs and when to use them
* Use of adaptive trial design for portfolio management, i.e., risk analysis

- Association for Consumer Research Annual North American Conference 2008
-
Oct 23, 2008 - Oct 26, 2008,
Hyatt Regency Hotel San Francisco, California United StatesThe theme of the ACR 2008 conference is "Port of Call." Researchers from around the world will arrive in the international trading center of San Francisco, laden with a valuable cargo of ideas for sale and trade. Our theme therefore is meant to highlight the international nature of our organization, our reliance on the conference as a marketplace to which we bring and exchange our wares, and the role of the conference in building intellectual and social connections. It stresses the role of ideas as potentially exotic, previously unseen, and created by others not precisely like ourselves. In this sense, our theme is meant to underscore the values emphasized by the 2007 conference and its theme of "Building Bridges." Further, port cities, like the conference, are diverse and a little dangerous as should be our best research. We hope to highlight new ideas, ideas that can shape the field.
The format for the conference will have some parallels to last year’s schedule. The opening reception will be held Thursday night. Sessions will be held on Friday and Saturday. Roundtable discussions will be held during regular session hours. The doctoral symposium will be held on Thursday. There will be no Sunday sessions. - full details

- Military Energy and Fuels Conference
-
Oct 23, 2008 - Oct 24, 2008,
Caesars Palace Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, Nevada United StatesThe rising cost of military fuels, coupled with the instability of foreign supplier markets, is driving DoD to mandate increased efficiencies in fuel use and to develop alternatives to traditional fossil fuels. National Energy Security has become a prime imperative, impacting not only US and Western economic objectives but also military objectives, strategies, roles and missions.
This outstanding conference brings together the major organizations and key experts who are charged with leading the way for OSD and the Services in getting this critical cost burden under control. The solution will be complex. Much will depend on making future systems, platforms and weapons more fuel efficient. However, DoD is also banking on US technological ingenuity to provide the next generation of fuel solutions. How can your organization get involved? What are the latest OSD and Service initiatives in energy management? In alternative fuels R&D? What is the potential impact of DoD fuel needs on the creation of a sustainable alternative fuels industrial base? How is coal-to-liquid technology evolving? Hybrid Electric Drive? What roles will fuel cells play? These and many other critical questions will be addressed during this important event. - full details
- National Algae Association Business Plan Forum
-
Oct 23, 2008 - Oct 24, 2008,
The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center, 4747 Research Forest Dr., Suite 180 The Woodlands, Texas United States 77281
The National Algae Association announces its Algae Commercialization Business Roundtable, Research, and Networking Forum. Existing algae oil production companies, algae researchers, algaeprenuers and investors will present leading-edge technologies for commercialization of Algae: The New Biofuel on October 23-24, 2008, at The Woodlands Conference Center and Resort in The Woodlands, Texas. The NAA brings companies and researchers together to share ideas and exchange information to overcome technological hurdles to fast track commercialization of the algae oil industry.
Current high oil prices, the collapse of food-for-fuel initiatives and concerns about increased levels of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere have all created awareness of the need for alternative fuel solutions. Algae has emerged as one of the lowest cost feedstocks for the biofuels and cellulosic industries. Algae is considered to be a promising source of renewable oil which can be processed and refined into a variety of transportation fuels.
Recent breakthroughs in pond development and closed end loop systems put algae oil production companies on the leading-edge of the renewable oil industry.

- Algae Commercialization: Business Roundtable, Research and Networking Forum

Oct 23, 2008 - Oct 24, 2008,
The Woodlands Conference Center and Resort Texas United StatesCALL FOR PRESENTATIONS AND PAPERS
The National Algae Association is growing at an astronomical rate. We are the first national trade association for the algae industry in the United States, and we have doubled in size just in the last three months. We had very informative presentations from algae researchers and algae companies at our conference in July. People from 25 states, 4 countries and 8 universities registered for that conference. Due to the high cost of oil, commercializing the algae oil industry is now put on a fast track. We need to get off foreign oil and to bring back energy security to the US. Collaboration, innovation and commercialization are the motivating factors of our organization.
We will be structuring the next conference differently than the one we just completed, and we are now requesting algae research and company presentations in order to commit to an agenda. If you would like to be considered as a speaker, please submit your presentations and papers at your earliest convenience. Also, if you are interested in becoming a group leader for research, operations, equipment/construction or financing teams, please let us know. - full details
