Keystone State Reading Association will host its annual conference in historic Valley Forge, just outside Philadelphia. KSRA is excited about the change in
location of the conference and also in the change of format. This year, the conference will be held from Saturday, October 18th through Tuesday, October 21st. What a revolutionary idea to meet for a full week-end and two additional days! Seven half-day institutes will be held on Saturday. Conference attendees who opt to
attend the institutes have the opportunity to choose two of these professional sessions, as the earlier sessions are repeated. What a wonderful menu choice of institutes await
the conferees!

Many children’s authors from throughout Pennsylvania will be speaking during sessions and during luncheon events. The authors’ presentations are always highlights of the conference. We hope you will attend several of these specially planned meetings.

While the world aquaculture industry is steadily growing as the demand for food fish and shellfish are increasing, solutions to disease problems remain the most significant issue for its sustainable development. Since the last international symposium on fish diseases organized by the Japanese Society for Fish Pathology (JSFP) in Hiroshima in 1997, fisheries and aquaculture in Japan and the rest of the world have changed considerably. Therefore, it is of particular importance to now review how such studies in fish pathology have contributed to disease control, analyze the current situation and establish a strategy for the future. Thus, the JSFP will host an international symposium in Tokyo in October 2008.

ESF-FWF Conference in Partnership with LFUI: New Challenges in Earthquake Dynamics:Observing and Modelling a Multi-Scale System

The aim of this conference is to discuss the recent advances in earthquake physics, in particular relating to earthquake interactions (observations, models). An emphasis will be given on the role of small scale processes and structures in controlling large scale earthquakes and regional seismicity. It will promote new, exploratory discussions on how to reconcile large scale regional models with small-scale controls on stress and seismicity. The conference is divided into 8 sessions:

• Session 1: Observation of seismicity patterns.
• Session 2: Stochastic modelling of earthquake interactions.
• Session 3: Earthquake rupture in an heterogeneous crust.
• Session 4: Non-elastic processes at the small scale and how they affect earthquake occurrence at the large scale.

The last weekend of February belonged to people with passion. Poznan International Fair was a meeting place for model making fans. The exposition delighted with precision of realization because the whole lot of them are masterpieces of modeling patience. Many of the exhibits were put into movement on water, on ground and in the air. The helms passed also into the hands of the visitors who were discovering their second nature as racing drivers or helicopter pilots.

A portion of knowledge seasoned with a pinch of passion

In model making there in no better teacher than a experienced person. That is why model making workshops conducted by Leszek Lewiński were so popular. During the two days of the exhibition his stand was surrounded by a group of railway models fans avid for new skills. Also having them on mind, Polish Society of Railway Modelers prepared some seminars where they presented methods of valorization of models, fundamentals of digital control and the idea of module mock-ups. The theory might be quickly confronted with reality because a lot of impressive mock-ups were presented on the stands in pavilion no 6.
