- Water Tech 2008
-
Oct 12, 2008 - Oct 15, 2008,
Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dubai United Arab EmiratesThe Problem
The Middle East is facing a water resource problem that is one of the biggest in the world. The level of available renewable water in the region is one fifth of what the rest of the world enjoys on a per capita basis. Despite this, the UAE is one of the world’s largest waters users.
Meanwhile the population of the region is growing 55% more quickly than the population at the rest of the world. By 2011, water needs will be double of what they are now, predicted to be around 341 million imperial gallons per day. The threat of water scarcity ensures that investment in developing freshwater supply, along with the recycling and reuse of waste and sea water is an urgent priority across the region. This means that if strategies and infrastructure are not put in place, the water really is going to run out…
The Solution…
Attend the region’s only event strategically focused on developing and managing the existing and future water infrastructure and resources and find out how to:
• Plan, design and implement a pipe network that will cope with future demands
• Implement maintenance strategies that will reduce repair costs and ensure reliability
• Develop wastewater as a sustainable resource
• Protect and enhance freshwater as a long-term supply
• Create water resource plans that best capture and utilize surface water sources
• And Much More…

- Sensors and Sensing in Biology and Engineering
-
Oct 12, 2008 - Oct 16, 2008,
Grand Hotel San Michele, Centraro, Calabria ItalyThis conference will provide a forum for natural and physical-chemical scientists, mathematicians, and engineers to share and discuss in depth knowledge and new concepts, theories, discoveries, and research technologies related to both biological and artificial sensors and sensing. Because of the richness of this highly inter-disciplinary subject, it is of special interest to explore the extent to which nature may guide the development of artificial sensors and sensing technologies for a large range of beneficial applications.
The idea of applying principles found in nature to the design of engineering systems has a long history but only recently has bionics begun to establish itself with rapidly increasing impact on both biology and engineering. Progress has been facilitated by a number of sophisticated technologies and analytical methods that have now become available, highlighted among others by molecular biology on the one hand and micro-/nano-fabrication technologies in engineering on the other. The interest in looking upon nature as a database for solutions of complex technical problems already obtained by biological systems has reached a critical threshold from where it is rapidly expanding. Likewise, for the biologist, technologies developed in the physical sciences increasingly open up avenues to a deep understanding of new levels of complexity. - full details

Oct 12, 2008 - Oct 16, 2008,
Moscone Convention Center San Francisco, California United StatesPrograms at the Clinical Congress are designed to advance our ongoing quest to achieve the best clinical outcomes for our patients. Regardless of your specialty area, you will find unique programs among our lectures, skills-oriented and didactic postgraduate courses, panel discussions, surgical forum sessions, specialty and multidisciplinary sessions, and video-based education sessions. Attendees this year will be able to obtain special certificates including those enabling recipients to meet requirements for Maintenance of Certification, Maintenance of Licensure, and hospital reprivileging. In addition to advancing quality and innovation in the surgical field for our patients, the College is making significant strides in improving the practice environment for surgeons.
New this year to the Clinical Congress is our meeting-wide implementation of a new “Track” system that includes specific blocks of sessions that will highlight more than 20 different specialty areas in surgery to choose from. This system is a result of a strategic planning process for the Clinical Congress that led to recommendations that were approved by the Board of Regents in February 2008. These recommendations will be phased in over a two-year period. We hope this new system will assist all our Fellows in targeting their areas of focus and interest and will make it easier for them to identify which sessions and courses will fit into their schedules and provide them with optimal learning opportunities. The goal is to keep our Clinical Congress fresh and innovative for another 94 years! - full details

InterContinental The Grand New Delhi, IndiaIEEE PES Conference POWERCON2008, the sixth in the series and 2008 IEEE Power India Conference, the third in the series will provide mainly an opportunity to the practicing Engineers, Academicians and Researchers to meet in a forum to discuss various issues in power system technology with a changed scenario under restructuring for the planning, application of technological advancements, control, operation and maintenance of power system with its components with the object of achieving utmost economy in delivering electricity of proper quality and adequately as needed towards fulfillment of aspirations of people of various countries in this part of the globe. Rich experience of some in harnessing the power potential of one kind or other, managing its transmission through large integrated network and distribution for optimum utilization at load centers can be a showcase for others in the years to follow. Experience gained when disseminated can provide insight to avoid costly mistakes in the future course of action. So not only success stories are important, but also knowledge of failure and possible reasons is essential to take appropriate preventive measures in time to avert reaching undesirable end-of-the-road in the progress. While indigenous development to suit the local need is definitely worth encouragement, adoption of new technologies innovated somewhere else to suit the need of the place of application is a task in itself. After all the spirit of competition and moving forward to progress being the motto, quicker it is better it is. The conference will also focus on new development trend such as distributed generation, renewable energy sources from the point of view of environmental impact and efficient use of electrical energy through improvement in design and performance of machines, drives and other devices deployed in industries.

- IEEE/ASME International Conference on Mechatronic and Embedded Systems and Applications (MESA 2008)
-
Oct 12, 2008 - Oct 15, 2008,
Beijing Friendship Hotel Beijing ChinaMechanical and electrical systems show an increasing integration of mechanics with electronics and information processing. This integration is between the components (hardware) and the information-driven functions (software), resulting in integrated systems called mechatronic systems. The development of mechatronic systems involves finding an optimal balance between the basic mechanical structure, sensor and actuators, automatic digital information processing and control in which embedded systems play a key role. The field of embedded system and mechatronics is becoming evermore challenging; issues in embedded software lie at the focus of researchers both in industry and academia. The goal of this 4th IEEE/ASME MESA, MESA08is to bring together experts from the fields of mechatronic and embedded systems, disseminate the recent advances made in the area, discuss future research directions, and exchange application experience. The conference program is organized in a number of symposia.
