Cape Sun Hotel Cape town, Western Cape, South AfricaWe are pleased to welcome you all to the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association conference here in beautiful Cape Town. We are delighted to be hosting the conference, in October 2008.
The theme of the conference is appropriate bearing in mind South Africa’s constitution is relatively new and we are a young democracy. The proposed programme will encourage thought-provoking and intense discussions by many acclaimed speakers.
Cape Town certainly has a lot to offer after hours and on sight-seeing outings. A trip to Robben Island will reveal much about our recent political history. - Conference for the Recruitment and Retention of Women and Minorities into the STEM Disciplines (CRRWMSD)
-
Oct 5, 2008 - Oct 7, 2008,
University of Nevada Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Nevada United StatesThe question of participation of women and minority in Engineering and Sciences has received some attention in the past. Many federal agencies and universities in the nation have attempted to fill the giant gap between majority enrollees and the rest of the student population. Sporadically, quick fix packages are implemented either to meet state and federal guidelines. Once the audits have run their courses or changes have occurred in the central administration, programs designed to meet the needs of women and minority students are first to be eliminated.
These short sighted policies have devastating effects on the recruitment and the retention of not only women and minority graduate students, women and minority post-doctoral candidates but also, on the recruitment and the retention of women and minority tenure earning faculty. Henceforth, the workforce of the country has been deprived of the contributions of a significant segment of its population. As the educated workforce in Engineering and Sciences is graying, America is limping on this first decade of the 21st Century toward a more technologically separate and unequal society. - full details

- 3rd International Conference on Electrophoretic Deposition
-
Oct 5, 2008 - Oct 9, 2008,
Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center, Hyogo JapanThis conference follows from the success of the previous conferences of the series held in 2002 and 2005. These tri-annual Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) conferences are a leading venue where experts from academia and industry working on EPD and its application as a materials processing technique get together to learn and discuss new results and findings.
Electrophoretic deposition exploits an electric surface charge on particles in suspension, which migrate in the presence of an appropriate electric field enabling the consolidation of particles into films onto any shaped substrate or forming bulk components. For its successful application, a basic understanding of the colloidal stability, the deposition kinetics, and the constrained drying and sintering issues of the deposit is necessary. Earlier applications of EPD have been in the shaping of ceramic articles and in coating technology. New areas of applications of EPD are the low-cost fabrication of composite and nanostructured materials, including metal-ceramic and polymer nanocomposites, composite laminates and functional gradient materials. Furthermore, the EPD of electroceramic particulate materials gives potential advances in a number of applications, including piezoelectric motors, biomedical ultrasound probes, chemical sensors as well as multifunctional and bioactive coatings
This 2008 meeting will continue the conference tradition of high quality contributions of relevance to both industrial and academic participants, with topics ranging from the fundamental science of EPD to the engineering and applications of the technique in materials processing. - full details
