- 12th International Conference on Quatum Optics and Quantum Information (ICQO 2008)
-
Sep 20, 2008 - Sep 23, 2008,
Reval Hotel Conference Center, Vilnius, LithuaniaXII International Conference on Quantum Optics and Quantum Information organized by Lithuanian Physical Society, Belarussian Physical Society, Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will be held on September 20-23, 2008, in the conference center of the "Reval Hotel Lietuva" located in the city of Vilnius. General idea of the conference is to bring together scientists and engineers from different fields (optics, atomic and molecular physics, solid state physics, computer science) which actively contribute to the field of Quantum Optics and Quantum information. The traditional style for this Conference is the oral presentations followed by rather informal discussions. This International Conference will be the next one of a series of very successful meetings that were held in Minsk during the last 20 years. If you have joint projects with quantum optics and quantum information scientists in the FSU or plan to start such an activity, it is a good chance to choose this event for your local meeting with colleagues.
The main topics include: Materials and devices for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (nanophotonics, spintronics, strong optical nonlinearities, laser sources for quantum cryptography, including single photon sources and ultrashort lasers, single photon detectors, single quantum objects (molecules, atoms, solid state impurities, quantum dots, electrons, electron and nuclear spins): detection, control and manipulation), Fiber-based and free-space QKD systems, Traditional Quantum optics problems, quantum imaging, Entanglement (characterization, creation and detection, entanglement in many bodies systems, metrology using entanglement), Building hardware for scalable quantum computers (trapped ions, atomic systems (optical lattices), solid state systems, photon based quantum information processing), Quantum memory and quantum repeaters, Interfaces between photons and atomic qubits, Quantum algorithms, Quantum simulations. - 6th STRANSKI-KAISCHEW" Workshop "Nanophenomena at Surfaces: Fundamentals of Exotic Condensed Matter Properties"
-
Sep 20, 2008 - Sep 26, 2008,
Sunny Beach, Black Sea Coast, BulgariaThe VIth "STRANSKI-KAISCHEW" workshop "Nanophenomena at Surfaces: Fundamentals of Exotic Condensed Matter Properties" will present the latest development of both theory and experiment in the field of phase transitions and crystal growth at surfaces and interfaces and will focuse on the processes at atomic scale . In contrast to other more applied nanoscale physics meetings, the VIth SK-SSW 2008 will follow the trend devoted to the "fundamentals of nano" as already settled in the former meetings.
The topic of the workshop includes self organization phenomena on surfaces and interfaces, atomic scale manipulation of nano objects, computer simulations in nanoscale condensed and soft matter physics, catalyst modelling and characterization. Special attention will be paid to studies acting as a bridge between "classical" and "nano" concepts. The program of the meeting includes invited lectures, oral and poster presentations, round table discussions (frontiers of "nano" models), scientific film sessions (computer simulations and real experiments). The SK-SSW 2008 will also pay tribute to Prof. R. Kaischew, founder of the Institute of Physical Chemistry, and up to 2002 scientific doyen of this series of meetings, on the occasion of his 100th anniversary. Professor Rostislaw Kaischew played along with Professor Ivan Stranski a crucial role in the last century in setting up the theoretical fundamentals of nucleation and crystal growth phenomena. - full details
