- Semantic E-business and Enterprise Computing (SEEC)
-
Sep 17, 2008 - Sep 19, 2008,
Cochin, Kerala IndiaThe 1st International Conference on ‘Semantic E-business and enterprise computing’ in Kerala, India, will create an international forum for the evolving field of semantic E-business and enterprise computing.
With the increased size and complexity of e-business applications and products, e-business products are often no longer produced or created by an individual or even a single entrepreneur. Instead, e-business applications and products are now commonly produced by different developers using diverse practices. Therefore the meaning of those applications in e-business are contributed by the organisations and the individuals who are participating in e-business. In order to apply more and more meaning to e-business and enterprise computing and thereby minimising the complexity of e-business and enterprise computing, it is beneficial for those working in the field to standardize e- business applications. By developing e-business and enterprise computing products using semantic techniques, e-business entrepreneurs are finding solutions to these problems and attempting to enhance the meaning of online business and thus reducing the risks of online business, and also reduces the time of enterprise computing applications developments. - full details

- MEMS Packaging Course
-
Sep 17, 2008 - Sep 19, 2008,
Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaMicroelectromechanical systems (MEMS) have captured the interest of the public with their promise to miniaturize existing systems, making them smaller, less expensive, and more reliable. MEMS devices, also known as Microsystems or Micromachines, are now being used in an increasing number of applications, including air bag sensors, Digital Light Processing™ projectors, and inkjet printers, to name a few. This course focuses on design, operation, packaging, and reliability aspects of MEMS technologies, with a particular emphasis on packaging.
Since MEMS devices have a large surface area to volume ratio, certain surface effects (e.g., electrostatics, liquid wetting) dominate volume effects (e.g., inertia or thermal mass). Finite element analysis (FEA) is an important part of MEMS design and operational simulation. The sensor technology made significant progress due to MEMS. Complexity and performance of advanced MEMS-based sensors are described by different MEMS sensor generations. - full details

- Marketing 2.0 and Beyond
-
Sep 17, 2008 - Sep 19, 2008,
Sydney, New South Wales AustraliaThe online arena is increasingly being hailed as the future of the marketing profession. Applications such as blogs, wikis, search engines, mobile communications and social networking sites such as facebook are seemingly perfect tools for marketers to use in communicating their organisation’s products and strategies to their target demographic.
However, there is a lack of understanding from senior managers, who see this area as fraught with risk and better handled by those with a focus on the technology behind the applications. Even marketers themselves can fall into this trap, meaning that opportunities are wasted, or worse still, never explored.
Marketers need to ensure that marketing 2.0 is understood and not relegated or consolidated into the technical or web focused departments, but acknowledged as a legitimate part of the marketing function, or the organisation risks their competitors gaining a significant advantage in a highly competitive market.
This two-day conference will identify and explore solutions to the challenges that face marketing professionals in developing a marketing 2.0 strategy and suggest how to:
* Develop a strategy that provides maximum exposure for your organisation
* Explore the opportunities presented by marketing 2.0 platforms
* Optimise your position on search results
* Encourage awareness and appreciation of marketing 2.0 across the organisation
* Integrate and build on initial successes in future marketing campaigns - full details

This will be organised as a relatively small scale conference, based on the presentation of around 12 papers in order to provide opportunity to present and discuss papers in depth.
The first conference will be focused on economic growth in developing countries.
Growth has once again become an important issue of concern in the development agenda, in part reflecting impressive performance of countries such as China, India and Vietnam and the limited, or unsustained, growth experienced by many other developing countries. The conference will consider issues about how to achieve and sustain growth, and its impacts on poverty and various inequalities. - full details

-
Sep 17, 2008 - Sep 19, 2008,
Universityof Kent Kent,, England, United KingdomThe Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (University of Kent) and the Centre for Editing Lives and Letters (QMUL) are pleased to co-sponsor a 3-day conference to be held at the University of Kent on 17-19th September 2008. We invite speakers from across the disciplines to consider early modern agency and the transfer of knowledge between states, agents, travellers and spies in the period 1500-1700. Whilst recent scholarship in this area has focussed on early modern interactions and questions of policy, polity and politics, the negotiations and encounters of intelligencers, diplomats and spies remain relatively unexplored. Considering the relationship between agents and information we seek to address some of the following questions: how did intelligencers retrieve, transmit, and present information? What was the value of this information and how was it received? How were networks of influence constructed and maintained?
