The aim of the meeting is to gather scientists from Europe and other parts of the world to discuss the recent developments in the field. The host institute (Institute for Experimental Pathology, University of Iceland at Keldur, homepage: www.keldur.hi.is), has made remarkable developments in the research field in the recent past and there are ongoing experiments of interest. The conference is planned as a 60th anniversary of the host institute and sponsored by FEMS (homepage: www.fems-microbiology.org) and one session is sponsored by NordForsk (homepage: www.nordforsk.org). Special emphasis is on supporting the attendance of young scientists. The conference is planned for three days and will start with a plenary lecture given by dr. - 8th International Conference on Pulse Investigations in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics (PULS'2008 Conference)
-
Sep 6, 2008 - Sep 12, 2008,
Pregorzaly, Krakow PolandJust 24 years ago the Institute of Applied Radiation Chemistry (IARC) at the Technical University of Lodz, Poland, joined the exclusive "club" of pulse radiolysis laboratories.
This event can be dated to May 1983, when 8 MeV LINAC and linked simple microsecond pulse-radiolysis set-up was officially opened and turned over to the team of chemists. Few months later Professor Jerzy Kroh, the Director of IARC, encouraged by the technical progress and scientific activity around new facilities proposed to organize, on premises of IARC, a dedicated international conference, tentatively named as PULS'85. The aim of this conference (first truly international in pulse radiolysis since 1967 Miller Conference held in Kazimierz Dolny) was to bring together the scientists who in different fields were exploring fascinating world of very fast processes and short living intermediates. Wide and very positive response to this idea showed that PULS filled the existing niche and soon became important forum for presenting results of experimental and theoretical studies of micro, nano, pico and femto time world. Tentative name PULS turned into the flag one. Each Conference took place at different location in Poland, giving the participants an opportunity to visit picturesque parts of our country. - full details

- ICER 2008: Fourth International Computing Education Research Workshop
-
Sep 6, 2008 - Sep 7, 2008,
University of Technology (UTS) Sydney, New South Wales AustraliaComputing education, as a research discipline, is the study of how people come to understand computational processes and devices, and of how to improve that understanding. As computation becomes ubiquitous in our world, understanding of computing in order to design, structure, maintain, and utilize these technologies becomes increasingly important – both for the technology professional and for the technologically literate citizen. The research study of how the understanding of computation develops, and of how to improve that understanding, is critically important for the technology-dependent societies in which we live.
Computing Education Research employs methodologies from many fields, including psychology, education, anthropology and statistics. As a consequence, research is frequently characterized by a diversity of methodological approaches; these may be applied directly, or may be combined and modified to suit the particular cross-disciplinary questions that we ask. - full details
