10th Biennial Conference of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA)
Aug 26, 2008 - Aug 30, 2008,
Faculty of Arts, University of Ljublijana, Ljublijana, Slovenia

The main aim of the conference is to deal with public discourse on diversity, cross cultural communication and at the same time the lack of discussion about underestimated aspects of mutuality, including the post colonial, post imperial, post socialist, and post racial issues. Until now, anthropologists have not considered mutuality a significant concept in understanding diversity. The conference will attempt to explore different ethnographic instances of mutuality, especially those of mutual borrowing of practices and beliefs, for example processes of religious and cultural syncretism, creolization or acculturation, related to imperialism, colonialism or modern cultural flow, etc., mutual trust or mutual recognition.

4th Annual Maritime Surveillance, Safety and Security 2008
Aug 26, 2008 - Aug 29, 2008,
The Table Bay Hotel Cape Town, Western Cape Province South Africa

Every waterway presents unique safety and security challenges. Surveillance, safety and security play a critical role in providing improved maritime intelligence in order to combat potential security threats at sea and to African ports. In Africa, specific challenges exist relating to sourcing cost-effective surveillance solutions in order to reduce maritime threats and improve information and emergency response planning.

During research I conducted with key individuals involved in maritime surveillance, the following critical concerns were raised:

* Marine and atmospheric environments, local maritime laws and increasing vessel traffic are complicating the navigation of waterways, ports and rivers, resulting in increased threats and risks at sea
* There is a lack of maritime border control, resulting in escalating problems of illegal immigration, human and drug trafficking
* Fisheries and other natural resources are in danger of depletion due to unregulated and uncontrolled fishing activity
* Piracy and organized crime at sea are threatening the safe passage of cargo and passenger ships
* Coastal emergency response is haphazard and not controlled through a centralized system
* Commercial and naval ports are continuously exposed to potential terrorist attacks

With all this in mind, IQPC brings you the highly popular 4th Annual Maritime, Surveillance Safety and Security Conference

Aug 26, 2008 - Aug 29, 2008,
Indaba Hotel, Fourways, Johannesburg, Gauteng South Africa

The governments across Africa at least the ones not mired in civil war are implementing policies which have far-reaching pro-development implications. Poverty level is coming down, per capita income is rising and Africans are starting to live a better life” Deepak Nagpal, 24 April 2008, Zee News

The spread of terrorism and terrorist activities across African borders is intensifying particularly in West and Central Africa. African government are constantly trying to collaborate as a continent to combat and reduce the increase of terrorist activities.

Various religious movements, political instability, socio-economic pressures and territorial consolidation are some of the major concerns that are contributing factors to the spread of terrorism in Africa.

IQPC's 3rd Annual Combating and Preventing Terrorism conference that will be held from the 26-29 August 2008, in South Africa. You will be provided with insightful information on the latest strategies and methodologies to combating and preventing the spread of terrorism in Africa. Come hear from Africa’s military populace, government representatives and international non-governmental organisations about future plans on eradicating terrorism on the African continent.

3rd Workshop on Virtualization in High Performance
Aug 26, 2008 - Aug 26, 2008,
University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria Spain

Virtual machine monitors are reaching wide-spread adoption in a variety of operating systems as well as scientific educational and operational usage areas. With their low overhead, hypervisors allows for concurrently running large numbers of virtual machines, providing each encapsulation, isolation and in the case of Xen, network-wide CPU migratability. VMMs offer a network-wide abstraction layer of individual machine resources to OS environments, thereby opening whole new cluster-and grid high-performance computing (HPC) architectures and HPC services options. With VMMs finding applications in HPC environments, these workshops aim to bring together researchers and practitioners active on virtualization in distributed and high-performance cluster and grid computing environments. The workshops will be one day in length, composed of 20 min paper presentations, each followed by 10 min discussion sections. Presentations may be accompanied with interactive demonstrations. The workshop will end with a 30 min panel discussion by presenters.
