The Organizing Committee, with the advice of its industry representatives, has selected the theme: Sustainable Practices in Metallurgy and Materials: Embracing the Future with the below listed symposia for structuring the technical program of the conference which reflect the main concerns and issues affecting the future of the metallurgical and materials industry. Lectures will be given by internationally recognized leaders in Industry and will address the major topics that impact the future of the sector. Topics will include economic drivers, impacts of industry consolidation, development of new products, technological developments, manpower development, sustainability, trends in operations and productivity, and human health issues.

Since the first applications of computer in chemistry in the early 1960's, "computational chemistry" has evolved today to be at the vanguard of most advances in chemistry, material science, physics, geology, biology and medicine. Its impact in chemistry can be noted from the fact that within four decades of its existence, five of the top ten most highly cited publications in 125 years of JACS are related to computational chemistry. In addition to technical advances in computers and algorithms, the phenomenal impact of computational chemistry is due to the dedicated and sustained efforts of many individuals. In this regard, we felt that it would be befitting to organize a symposium Theory and Applications of Computational Chemistry in 2008 gathering a large number of the world's leading exponents of computational chemistry. This event also follows
previous successful TACC conferences, for example, the 2004 TACC conference in Korea.

Following the tradition of TACC conferences we shall invite a significant number of leading scientists to give preliminary talks. There are also many parallel sessions and poster presentations to allow conference participants present their research works.

The conference consists of sessions with themes selected in advance by the IARIW Council (see below), submitted paper sessions, and poster sessions. Submissions are invited for the main thematic and submitted paper sessions. The deadline for receipt of proposals is August 31, 2007.

The annual ACM SIGKDD conference is the premier international forum for data mining researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government to share their ideas, research results and experiences. The series of workshops ECRYS pursue several goals:

The program offers two parallel streams in obstetrics and gynecology. As well as the traditional state-of-the-art updates and new research presentations, there will be significant opportunity for small group discussions through ‘Meet the Professor’ and Oral Poster sessions. Bioinformatics is the science of managing, mining, and interpreting information from biological data. Various genome projects have contributed to an exponential growth in DNA and protein sequence databases. Advances in high-throughput technology such as microarrays and mass spectrometry have further created the fields of functional genomics and proteomics, in which one can monitor quantitatively the presence of multiple genes, proteins, metabolites, and compounds in a given biological state. The ongoing influx of these data, the presence of biological answers to data observed despite noises, and the gap between data collection and knowledge curation have collectively created exciting opportunities for data mining researchers.

The annual Agricultural Biotechnology International Conference (ABIC) is an essential event for scientists, researchers and other professionals working in the area of agricultural biotechnology. ABIC provides a unique forum where the latest scientific advances in agricultural biotechnology are presented, and where future directions of agricultural biotechnology are highlighted and discussed.

The series of International Conference on Nuclear and Radiochemistry aims to promote worldwide scientific collaboration among scientists involved in various aspects of nuclear chemistry and radiochemistry. The first conference in the series was held in Lindau, Germany (1984), and subsequently organized in every four years in various parts of Europe, i.e. Brighton, England (1988), Vienna, Austria (1992), St. Malo, France (1996), Pontresina, Switzerland (2000) and Aachen, Germany (2004). Now it is our pleasure to announce the Seventh International Conference on Nuclear and Radiochemistry (NRC-7). The conference will be held in Budapest, Hungary, between 24 August and 29 August 2008. The beautiful capital of Hungary is especially suitable to make the participants feel its friendly atmosphere not only during the sessions but also during the time of relaxation.

Although the conference has a European tradition, contributions and participation from all over the world are welcome.

The International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics is an international non-governmental scientific organisation belonging to the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). It was founded in 1948, with the objectives to form a link between persons and organisations engaged in scientific work in mechanics and related fields, and to promote the development of mechanics, both theoretical and applied, as a scientific discipline.

The International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM) is held every four years. It provides an important means of meeting the objectives of IUTAM through the gathering of the mechanics community. The first ICTAM was held in 1924, in Delft, The Netherlands. The conference continues a series of previous conferences held in Alghero (1992), Como (1996), and Camerino (2004). It is the intention of these meetings to attract scientists with an interest in the field of metal-nitrogen ligand chemistry from Europe and abroad. In particular the participation of young scientists is encouraged.

As compared to the previous conference held in Camerino, the scope of the 2008 conference has been extended by explicitly mentioning additional topics in the subtitle of the conference. Thus the scientific program will consist of modern advances in the fields of coordination chemistry, metal-organic chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, and homogeneous catalysis.

The conference will comprise plenary and session lectures as well as poster sessions. A number of oral presentations will be selected from the submitted contributions.

Ionic media have made great scientific progress in the last years. Both fields, molten salts and ionic liquids, have contributed to new fundamental insight and advanced which have allowed to explore new research areas and to realize new technical applications.

WEBKDD 2008 will be the 10th anniversary workshop on knowledge discovery on the Web, taking place at the KDD since 1999. WebKDD presentations have historically been of high quality and influence, and workshops have in the past attracted not only audience from academia, but also a significant audience from industry and government agencies. Altogether, the papers at the past WEBKDD workshops have accumulated about 940 citations, including 7 patent citations that cite the workshop as the premier reference on the topic of Web usage analysis. (The citations are from Google Scholar, accessed between Feb. 10 and Feb. 12, 2008.)

In WEBKDD 2008, we anticipate a wrap-up and lessons-learned from 10 years of research on mining the Web, the Semantic Web(s) and the social Web and a research agenda for the years to come.

Steam generation has a long history in the petroleum industry. In recent years, the interest in steam generation has increased due to the interest in heavy oil production. The cost of steam generation and the related water supply and treating facilities can be a significant project cost.

Topics to be discussed include the following:

• What new technologies are in development that will make steam generation more cost effective?
• Has superheated steam technology evolved to a point to make it a viable option for field use?
• Can produced water be used as a water source? Issues related to other water sources: sea, well, and surface (including rain)
• Is steam the appropriate method to deliver heat to the production face? How do we pick the appropriate steam pressure required? Should we consider steam compression as an alternative to superheat? What quality steam (% water) is required at the production interface?
• What new water treating technologies in development could be used? What purity is required for the water, and are there alternate technologies that should be considered?
• Can refinery/utility type boilers be modified for use in the field?
