The InfoLex Research Group at Pompeu Fabra University is proud to host the 13th EURALEX (European Association for Lexicography) International Congress. The EURALEX Congresses brings together professional lexicographers, publishers, researchers, software developers, and others interested in dictionaries of all types. The programme will include plenary lectures, parallel sessions, software demonstrations, pre-congress tutorials and specialized workshops, a special session for students and work-in-progress, a book and software exhibition, and social events for participants and their guests. The congress in Barcelona will run from Tuesday afternoon through Saturday midday. The sessions will be held on the main campus of Pompeu Fabra University, which is centrally located and easily reached by public transportation.

We want to suggest that each session could be divided into as many as three panels (i.e., smaller groups) and each panel could be consisted of 5 paper presenters. If a session has three panels and a total of 15 speakers, the session leader will be granted by the organizing committee one waiver of registration fee. This measure is taken to encourage scholars to become session leaders.

The Zambia Library Association will host the XVIII Standing Conference of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa Library and Information Associations (SCECSAL) in Lusaka, Zambia in July 2008, under the theme - Libraries and Information Services Towards the Attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The sub-themes of the conference are the following:


1. The MDGs in the African context - Are there African specific factors that need consideration in the discussion and in expounding the MDGs; Is it obvious what roles libraries and information systems play and need to brace for?
2. MDGs and Libraries: Challenges - The different types of libraries (public, special, academic, etc.) have different challenges that they encounter in information management and delivery, what are the major ones that they need to address and be aware of towards the attainment of the MDGs?
3. Information Communication Technology in Delivering Library and Information Services to achieve the MDGs: how can e-commerce, e-governance, e-education, e-agriculture, e-health, etc contribute to the attainment of MDGs in Africa? Should ICTs be harnessed differently in Africa? Is the global village a reality in management and delivery of information in Africa?

MSDG 2008 Summer Research Meeting

For the first time, the MSDG summer meeting comes to the University of Nottingham, following five successive and successful years in Fitzwilliam College Cambridge. In addition to all the activities of past summer meetings, this year's summer meeting is featured by about 25 oral presentations, two nights for social activities, and an industrial visit to E.ON at Ratcliffe on Soar.

As in recent years, the 2008 MSDG Summer Meeting will not have a formal theme, but papers on all areas of the science and technology of high and room temperature liquid salts are welcome. Authors of both oral and poster presentations are required to submit an abstract prior to the meeting, to be bound and distributed to attendees.
