- Patient Safety Congress 2008
-
May 22, 2008 - May 22, 2008,
ExCel London, England, United KingdomOver the last few years patient safety has gone from being a marginal issue that was often neglected to one of the highest priority issues in modern healthcare. There is now much greater awareness of patient safety issues among clinicians, managers and policymakers and the levels of incident reporting have dramatically increased.
All this is good news, but things are not changing as fast as they need to. Much progress has been made in defining the types of intervention that work, and some organisations are already showing impressive improvements. However, this learning is not being transferred quickly enough and we do not yet see the large scale change required.
This important new event forms a call to action for all to take patient safety seriously. We need to move on to the next level and mainstream use of the tools and information available, to dramatically reduce the risk of harm to patients across the NHS. What has become clear is that patient safety is everyone’s responsibility, and across its five dedicated streams, the Patient Safety Congress has something for everyone, including: Policy discussion, practical training on delivering frontline improvements, case studies of excellence and inspirational presentations from the leading international figures in patient safety and quality improvement. - full details

- 11th Nordic Burn Meeting
-
May 22, 2008 - May 24, 2008,
Uppsala University Uppsala SwedenThe number of burns in a society is a good indicator of its cultural and economic status. In the Nordic Countries, we are in the fortunate situation that the number of burns is low. Only a small group of health care providers are involved in the treatment and care of individuals whose injuries are so severe that they require admission to a Burns Unit, but many of you reading this are among those few.
The ability to deliver the best possible care to our patients, optimise the use of resources and incorporate new knowledge into routines requires a dialogue between friends with similar interests and goals. This makes our Nordic Burn Meetings with their social interactions an important element of our work, where the development of burn care can be discussed with friends. We therefore encourage you to join us and present not only research results but your own experiences in the form of “how we do it” presentations, as well as put forward, as a presentation, any unsolved problems you would like to discuss at the meeting. Presentations can be either as a poster or an oral presentation. The 11th Nordic Burn Meeting will be held in Uppsala, Sweden, in May 2008. The structure will be similar to previous meetings, but we plan an additional educational afternoon on Thursday with focus groups for separate professionals. We look forward to your participation and hope you will enjoy this new approach.
You are welcome to join us in Uppsala in May 2008 for three days of intensive discussions, exchange of experience and renewal of social contacts. - full details
