The aerospace sector, however, offers a significant challenge to metal suppliers. It is notoriously cyclical, with demand influenced by soaring oil prices, changes in technology, struggling legacy carriers and a booming low cost sector.

For the aerospace industry, in turn, market cycles of non-ferrous metals pose their own challenge. An increased demand for essential metals for which availability is limited has created a shift in some markets in favour of the supplier — a factor aerospace manufacturers have to contend with.
