From the organisation perspective it means improved effectiveness and efficiency; for example customer relations can be much better. There has been a significant change in the expectations of customers in recent years. Both internal and external customers expect customer care, and they are themselves diverse, reflecting the structure of society in general.

Diversity differs from the traditional view of equal opportunities because it covers a much wider framework than legal requirements; it is an important change of emphasis. All employees must accept the differences between individuals and value the benefits that such diversity brings.
