North Africa's oil and gas sector has been a magnet for intensive investments over the past decade, a trend likely to continue in the foreseeable future. While a great deal of investment has been focusing on exploration and production, leading North Africa countries are now focusing on building up their refining infrastructure to support their export targets as the growth in global energy consumption is sustained.

But while the region has attracted massive petroleum-related investments, it is also grappling with security issues that threaten the economy at large and more importantly, the very source of economic growth and social stability - the oil and gas industry.
