This February 2008 academic symposium at Johns Hopkins University will celebrate and analyze the development of Scouting, both for boys and girls, in the context of the historical developments of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The keynote speaker for the conference will be John R. Gillis, author of Youth and History and A World of Their Own Making: Myth, Ritual and the Quest for Family Values. More than 30 scholars of Scouting and Guiding from around the world will be presenting their work, and the conference promises to be a lively conversation about the past, present, and even future of the Scout movement.
