Workshop on High-Resolution Digital Soil Sensing and Mapping
Feb 5, 2008 - Feb 8, 2008,
Sydney, New South Wales Australia

One meeting hosted by the Working Group is already planned for the next four years. I hereby make a Preliminary Announcement of a Workshop on High-Resolution Digital Soil Sensing and Mapping to be held in Sydney, Australia from 5th to 8th February 2008. The idea is to bring together those interested in DSM and those using sensors and digital soil maps for precision agriculture and perhaps also soil contamination. So it will focus on <10 m resolution, D1 and D2 digital soil mapping (Table 1, p. 5 McBratney et al., 2003, Geoderma 117, 3-52). This is a different focus from the wide-area DSM dealt with in the Montpellier and Rio Workshops. (February in Sydney will particularly pleasant and attractive to visitors from the Northern hemisphere.) In addition to this during the 2006-2010 quadrennium I think we should have at least one Global Workshop on Digital Soil Mapping (similar in scope to the Montpellier and Rio meetings) , and one symposium in conjunction with the annual Soil Science Society of America Annual Meetings, taking care not to clash with Pedometrics meetings etc..
