Meiosis 2008

Jun 08, 2008 - Jun 13, 2008
Colby-Sawyer College, New London, New Hampshire United States

Highlights

Meiosis is the widely conserved form of cell division that allows sexually reproducing organisms to produce haploid gametes. The 2008 Meiosis Gordon Conference will bring together researchers who study the cell and molecular biology, genetics, genomics, biochemistry, and evolutionary biology of meiosis. The emphasis is on chromosome dynamics, but will include substantial coverage of cytoskeletal and nuclear structure, gene regulation, gametogenesis, and evolutionary aspects. Session topics will include: control of the meiotic cell cycle; initiation and regulation of meiotic recombination; crossover control; checkpoints that regulate progression through meiosis; histone modifications, silencing, germline small RNAs and transposon suppression; chromosome pairing, formation and disassembly of the synaptonemal complex; cohesion and chromosome condensation; chromosome movements, the meiotic bouquet and the nuclear envelope; spindles, kinetochores and the dissolution of cohesion; and the evolution of meiosis and sexual reproduction.
