Diffraction Methods In Structural Biology 2008

Jul 13, 2008 - Jul 18, 2008
Bates College Lewiston, Maine United States

Highlights

Structural Biology is a field which underpins our basic understanding of the molecular basis of disease, and hence of disease prevention. Diffraction of X-rays from crystalline samples is used to obtain accurate information on the three-dimensional structure of large biologically important molecules: this knowledge often allows the mechanisms of action of molecular pathways to be determined, and provides the potential to interfere with them if they have undesirable outcomes. The continuing development of experimental and computational methods is crucial to the successful application of the technique to increasingly complex biological systems.

This GRC seeks to cover the latest advances in all aspects of Diffraction Methods for Structural Biology. Sessions are planned on the experimental and computational aspects, future directions in synchrotron based macromolecular crystallography, challenging problems, pushing the boundaries of the technique, emerging technologies, complementary methods and imaging methods of the future.
