1st International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies (ISABEL 2008)

Oct 25, 2008 - Oct 28, 2008
Aalborg University, Fredrik Bajers Vej 7A Aalborg, Denmark

Highlights

The inter-disciplinary approach is becoming more and more a trend in scientific and engineering communities. This trend is confirmed by the strong connections between two of the most prosperous research areas, bio-medical and communication engineering, also with respect to pure sciences (e.g., mathematics and physics), which applied to the former show to be extremely powerful tools. This symposium provides an ideal platform for worldwide engineers and scientists. Indeed, internationally recognized researches and practitioners will share cutting-edge information, address hot issues, explore emerging technologies, exchange and build upon ideas. Particular stress will be put on the current and potential connections between pure sciences, biomedical and communication engineering, highlighting the beneficial synergies among these research areas.

Aalborg is an old, Danish city dating back to around the year 1040. With its approximately 200,000 inhabitants, it is the fourth largest city in Denmark and the capital of region of northern Jutland, which has more than 600,000 inhabitants and thereby is the third largest region in Denmark. Today, Aalborg is an active city of commerce and service while still having retained a significant industrial and production sector. During the recent decade, the major developments have taken place within IT, education and research. Close to 14,000 students are enrolled at Aalborg University, ranging from students at preparatory courses through doctoral-level candidates. Of these, 12.5% are international students, coming from different countries around the world. Approximately 3,500 students are enrolled at the Faculty of Humanities, 4,600 students at the Faculty of Social Sciences and 5,500 at the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Medicine. Aalborg University employs approximately 1,200 faculty and 800 administrative and technical staff.
