PACRIM 2008, the premier AusIMM geological conference on the Pacific Rim, will bring together the most recent advances in fundamental academic research, regional surveys by government agencies and industry’s latest discoveries to showcase the importance of the Pacific Rim for global mineral wealth.

From mountain peaks to active hydrothermal vents in the seafloor, the Pacific Rim (PACRIM) is a major factory for mineral deposits. This region, surrounding the Pacific Ocean, encompasses Paleozoic to Present convergent plate margins where subduction and associated magmatism created a dynamic, rapidly changeng geological environment leading to the formation of world-class porphyry, skarn, vein-style and epithermal mineralisation. Unique climatic and tectonic conditions exposed mountain belts, island-arcs and ophiolites to surface processes, blanketing the Pacific Rim with supergene ore deposits.

PACRIM 2008 is a must for any geologist, geophysicist, or geochemist exploring in the Pacific Rim or interested in mineralisation processes in active tectonic margins. Special sessions on the Northwest Pacific, North America, the Andean Region and Central America, Australia and New Zealand and the SW Pacific provide a forum for researchers and exploration professionals to present the state-of-the-art in ore deposits research in their regions.
