The Annual Symposium for Nurses and Pharmacists Specializing in Oncology: Assessing and Managing Side Effects in the Era of Targeted Therapies is intended to educate oncology nurses and pharmacists on the state-of-the-art options for effective management of cancer and treatment-related complications. The theme of this year’s meeting will focus on recognizing and managing targeted agent–related class effects, such as skin rash, hand-foot syndrome, fatigue, hypertension, bleeding events, and cardiotoxicity.

Overviews of the rationale of specific targeted approaches, mechanisms of action, and toxicity will be followed by more detailed information on side effects and contemporary management paradigms. Case-based approaches dealing with specific clinical scenarios will provide the audience with up-to-date skills in assessing and managing newer targeted therapeutics and provide both a firm grasp of the underlying concepts and a basis for continued learning as the field evolves.
