8th International Symposium on Bearing Steel Technologies: Developments in Rolling Bearing Steels and Testing

May 21, 2009 - May 22, 2009
Hyatt Regency Vancouver Vancouver, British Columbia Canada

Highlights

Papers are invited for the Eighth International Symposium on Bearing Steels: Developments in Rolling Bearing Steels and Testing, sponsored by ASTM Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys. The symposium will be held May 21-22, 2009, in Vancouver, BC, Canada, in conjunction with the May 18-21, 2009 standards development meetings of Committee A01.

Previous ASTM bearing steel symposia in this series have dealt with various aspect of bearing steel technologies, and the symposia papers have been published in the Journal of ASTM International (JAI) and as ASTM Special Technical Publications (STPs). The international nature of the ASTM bearing steel symposia make them a unique forum for the presentation and discussion of global bearing steel technologies. This eighth symposium will continue the tradition.

The broad goal of the symposium is to bring together rolling bearing steel practitioners to present the latest developments in rolling bearing steels and testing. Papers from steelmakers, semi-finished and finished bearing steel component producers, rolling bearing producers, and development and research institutes are encouraged. In addition to bearing steel steelmaking quality papers, bearing steel technology review and new development papers on the rating of nonmetallic inclusions are particularly welcome, to identify the progress 35 years since the first ASTM bearing symposium (Boston, 1974) dedicated to that subject.

Papers are therefore solicited on, but not limited to, the following topics:

* Bearing steelmaking process developments related to cost and quality (value),
* Development in bearing steel quality assessment,
* Steel macro and micro cleanliness effects on the rolling bearing service life performance,
* Developments in ultrasound testing methodologies,
* New alloy and heat treatment developments
* Latest information on bearing steel/rolling bearing functional testing methods and practices,
* Material factors in bearing life prediction models, effects of steel cleanliness, alloy additions and microstructure.
