A Workshop on Current Trends in Sheet Steel Specifications, sponsored by ASTM Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, will be held Monday, November 17, 2008 from 8:30am to 12:00 noon. The workshop will be held at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida, in conjunction with the November 17-20, 2008 standards development meetings of Committee A01.

The objective of the workshop is to update participants' understanding of some current issues related to sheet steels. The workshop will cover considerations from quality systems, global specifications, and novel sheet steels. As the marketplace becomes increasingly global, this information will be valuable to understand how to take ASTM standards into that marketplace. Engineers and technical professionals who need to understand, or describe, sheet steel specifications and applications should find this workshop of benefit.

There are three areas of focus for the workshop:

1. Understanding and use of quality systems, which includes both understanding of data analysis and the quality systems that are in use;
2. How other specification bodies around the globe function, and the impact of many specification sources; and an
3. Overview of some novel steel types not currently considered in ASTM sheet specifications.
