Large Animal Models For Biomedicine

Sep 25, 2008 - Sep 26, 2008
Munich, Bayern Germany

Highlights

The genetic basis of several human diseases is now understood and can be reproduced in mice. Rodents are of limited value for preclinical studies. Transgenic techniques are being extended to physiologically relevant species. Livestock animals with genetically-defined human diseases would aid development of preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This workshop will evaluate possible animal models and examine how research can be coordinated and strengthened, ensuring facilitating technology meets clinical need.
