Heterochromatin Structure And Function: From Repetitive Dna Sequences To Epigenetics

Highlights: Heterochromatin and centromeres are functionally distinct, epigenetically determined domains of eukaryotic chromosomes, highly enriched in repetitive DNA elements. A complex functional network exists between satellite DNAs, mobile elements, siRNA machinery, protein components and their variants. Major aspects linking molecular genetic data and protein components in heterochromatin are still poorly understood. Multidisciplinary exploratory discussions will focus on different aspects of DNA-protein interactions, and initialize establishment of a European-scale project.
