Highlights: The purpose of the workshop is to venture into a new field of bioethics. The opportunity of receiving health care services outside one’s country of origin prompts the question whether a coordinated European perspective on advance directives is required from a moral (and legal) standpoint. The aim of the workshop is to develop an interdisciplinary and transnational bioethical view on advance directives by pulling together the expertise of scientists in bioethics, medicine, health studies, law, social science, political science, social anthropology, and philosophy from various European countries.
